1959年熊本県生まれ。
東京大学卒、同大学院修士課程修了。花まる学習会代表、NPO法人子育て応援隊むぎぐみ理事長、算数オリンピック委員会作問委員、日本棋院理事。学生時代から予備校等で受験生を指導する中、学力の伸び悩み・人間関係での挫折と引きこもり傾向などの諸問題が、幼児期の環境と体験に基づいていると確信し、1993年、幼児～小学生を対象とした学習塾「花まる学習会」を設立。「メシが食える大人に育てる」という理念のもと、思考力、作文・読書、野外体験を主軸にすえ、現在も現場に立ち続ける。2020年から無人島プロジェクトを開始。

10代の時に起業し、稼いだお金でイギリスへ留学。アフリカでの学校設立に携わり、グローバルIT企業の取締役を務めた後、ドイツに移住し起業。ドイツで気候危機の深刻さを目の当たりにし、環境活動家になる事を決心。2年で1000を超える講演に呼ばれるようになり、ドイツ商工会議所のSDGs賞審査員や、2021年国連総会の司会とスピーチも務めた。訪れた国は約60カ国で、保有資格は国際・国家資格を含め約30個。
