On February 24, we held the final presentation for 3 Oulu University of Applied Sciences exchange students who joined us during the fall semester.
The Japanese students from the labs where the exchange students participated in their internships came to listen to the presentations. The OUAS students shared their experiences in Japan and discussed their projects. The Japanese students asked questions and shared comments in English, which led to an engaging discussion. Afterwards, both the Japanese students and the OUAS students exchanged contact information and enjoyed spending their last moments together.
Thank you for the wonderful presentations. We wish the exchange students all the best in their future endeavors!

From Monday, November 10, 2025, to Wednesday, November 19, 2025, we hosted 10 students and 2 teachers from Princess Chulabhorn Science High School (PCSHS) in Thailand for the "International Youth Science Exchange Program (Sakura Science Program)," supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). A follow-up workshop for this program was held online on January 30, 2026.
During the workshop, the participants shared what they had learned during their stay and their aspirations for TJ-SIF2026. The presentations clearly demonstrated that the program was an extremely meaningful experience for the PCSHS students.
Their first experience developing an app and their first time in Japan will undoubtedly contribute to their future careers in every way.

I had the opportunity to attend a Japanese language class for Finnish exchange students on January 22. During the lesson, they practiced creating sentences with picture cards and had conversations with Ikeda sensei using the vocabulary they had learned. Their pronunciation was really clear. On Monday, January 19, Sendai KOSEN held a presentation. 32 students who participated in the overseas programs gave their presentations. This year, the students traveled to Finland, France, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, and Taiwan.
Each student gave a five-minute presentation about their experiences, including classes, projects, and daily life at their host institutions. The photos they shared were wonderful.

From Friday, September 19 to Sunday, September 21, 2025, a hackathon event was held at the University of Oulu in Finland.
This event featured competition in innovation, coding, and surprising ideas that make the impossible possible. Ms. Chise Ito (Hirose Campus), currently on long-term assignment at Oulu University of Applied Sciences in Finland, participated.
Ms. Ito and her partner, Ms. Galdiolo, tackled the challenge of building the future of global risk prediction. They developed an API capable of predicting conflicts occurring worldwide over a three-year period and achieved an impressive 3rd place finish.
Ms. Ito also participated in other events, winning awards and actively engaging in activities on-site.

On Friday, December 5, 2025, Associate Vice President Aw Tuan Kee of Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore visited the Hirose Campus. Temasek Polytechnic is one of the institutions that has concluded a comprehensive academic exchange agreement with the National Institute of Technology Headquarters.
The visit began with greetings between President Hashizume and Vice President Aw Tuan Kee. Subsequently, discussions were held regarding the possibility of establishing an academic exchange agreement between both institutions. Faculty members from the Natori Campus also participated online. Although the visit was brief, it proceeded in a consistently cordial atmosphere, allowing both parties to confirm their shared understanding regarding international exchange between the schools.

From Monday, November 10, 2025, to Wednesday, November 19, 2025, with the support of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), we welcomed 10 students and 2 teachers from Princess Chulabhorn Science High School (PCSHS) in Thailand and conducted the "International Youth Science Exchange Program (Sakura Science Program)."

During the period, at the Hirose Campus and Sendai Base, they worked on developing smartphone applications that would help solve issues related to the declining birthrate and aging population, a problem also faced in Thailand, in cooperation with students from NIT, Sendai College.

Additionally, they visited Osaki City in Miyagi Prefecture, held discussions with the deputy mayor, and toured the manufacturing sites of manufacturing companies. During the tour, they observed engineers at work and received detailed explanations from company representatives.

It seems that the time was extremely meaningful for the PCSHS students from Thailand.

On December 18, the exchange students from Finland had the opportunity to experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. They had read the material about the tea ceremony assigned by the sensei of the tea ceremony club beforehand. Thanks to the preparation, they were able to accurately identify the tea utensils mentioned in the material during the ceremony. It must have been a valuable and memorable experience for them.
Since it was right before Christmas, there was an extra-special selection of holiday sweets, which I just had to photograph!

Just like in the spring semester, this semester's exchange students from Finland enjoyed furoshiki lesson in the Japanese culture class on December 18. After Takeda sensei told them that "Japanese culture has traditions of wrapping and folding things," the exchange students tried making backpacks. As Christmas was approaching, the exchange students shared traditional Christmas dishes from their home countries.

On Friday, September 12, 2025, President Munkh-Ochir Sergelen of the Institute of Engineering and Technology Mongol Kosen College of Technology(IET Mongol Kosen)　visited the Hirose Campus. The Mongolian Kosen is one of our college's academic exchange partner institutions, with which we exchange students.

After initial greetings with President Hashizume, discussions were held regarding IoT-related faculty training and the acceptance of government-sponsored international students. Faculty members from the Natori Campus also participated online. Despite the short visit, a lively exchange of opinions took place, deepening mutual understanding.

Our university plans to continue developing collaboration and cooperation with IET Mongolian College in the future.

Three exchange students from Finland participated in our Japanese Culture class. The Japanese Culture class is one of the classes that exchange students look forward to every year. They used origami to make paper airplanes today. Since the origami paper was larger than it was last year, they were able to fold it more easily. Then, they tried flying the paper airplanes inside the classroom.
