Meeting with the Embassy of Canada：カナダ大使館との意見交換

Today, we had the honor of meeting Theressa de Haan, First Secretary (Political) at the Embassy of Canada, to exchange ideas and information. Our discussion covered a wide range of topics, including research and education at the Hokkaido University Arctic Research Center, upcoming international seminars, and collaboration between Japan and Canada on Arctic-related matters, as well as broader issues of Arctic geopolitics・本日、カナダ大使館のテレッサ・デハーン一等書記官（政治）をお迎えし、意見交換を行う機会をいただきました。懇談では、北海道大学北極域研究センターにおける研究・教育活動や今後開催予定の国際セミナーに加え、北極域に関する日加協力、さらに北極域をめぐる地政学上の諸課題など、幅広いテーマについて意見交換を行いました。

メダ・バルドワジ(Medha Bhardwaj)さんが北極域研究センター海外研究員に加わりました。

彼女は、インドのジャワハラール・ネルー大学( Jawaharlal Nehru University, JNU) の国際関係学部ロシア中央アジア研究センター(Centre for Russian and Central Asian Studies, School of International Studies)の博士後期課程の大学院生(PhD Research Scholar)です。専門は北極の国際関係です。

北極域研究強化プロジェクト（ArCS III）海外若手研究者受入プログラムの支援を受け、6月6日から7月2日まで本センターに滞在します。受入研究者は大西富士夫特任准教授です。

東京の国連大学で開催されたノルウェーのイベント、Arctic Frontiers Abroad: Collaboration Across the Arctic Ocean"に参加しました。ノルウェーと日本それぞれの皇室からもゲストを迎えた華やかな場で、北極海を巡る協力体制について議論が展開されました。新しいパンフレットを持参して、センターと北極・南極学カリキュラムの宣伝にも精を出しました（杉山）。
Arctic Frontiers Abroad was held at the UN University in Tokyo. With special guests from the royal families of Norway and Japan, the importance of international collaboration in the Arctic was discussed.

UArctic Congress 2026, Faroe Islands. 人口5.6万人のフェロー諸島で、1300人を集めてUArctic（北極大学）の二年に一度の会合が開催されました。3日間で200を超えるセッション。多様で複雑な課題を抱える北極域の重要性を実感します。フェロー諸島の自然にも圧倒されました。（杉山）
