From July 8 to July 10, 2026, the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) Conference 2026 was held at Nagoya University in Aichi prefecture.
All the ADB-JSP scholars were invited to participate.
As a result, 21 scholars, along with Prof. Matsumoto and Prof. Kobayashi, attended the conference in person on July 9 (Day 2). In addition, 10 M2 scholars joined the plant tour on Day 1.
Scholars who had already returned to their home countries in March were also invited to join the event via Zoom.

The conference consisted of a three‑day program:
Day1. Exposure Visit to the Toyota Plant and the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology
Day 2.
(i) Opening Session,
(ii) Session 1. Knowledge for “Sustainable” Development: An ADB-JSP Symposium on “Innovation for Development”;
(iii) Session 2. ADB-JSP Knowledge Exchange

Day3. 2026 Graduating Scholars’ Plenary.

The plant tour on Day 1 began early in the morning, with a meeting time of 7:00 am. So, scholars traveled from Tokyo to Nagoya the day before by bullet train and stayed three nights in Nagoya. They enjoyed the plant tour and were particularly fascinated by the gorgeous Toyota Century model displayed at the site.

On Day 2, ten new scholars who enrolled in April arrived at Toyoda Auditorium at Nagoya University. The day was filled with fruitful events.
During the Opening Session and Session 1, several high-profile speakers delivered inspiring talks. Scholars were especially impressed by Nobel Physics laureate, Prof. Hiroshi Amano.

In Session 2, during the Scholars’ Research Forum, M2 Scholar, Ms. Sabiha Mahbuba Tarannum gave a presentation in front of a large audience. Following this, the Poster Session began at 4:00 pm. All 21 SU scholars submitted posters and engaged in valuable discussions with visitors.
M1 scholar, Mr. Burhan Zaheer received the Best Poster Award for Science Track.

Later, the Thesis of the Year Awarding ceremony was held. We are pleased to announce that one of our alumni, Ms. Ayesha Ferdous Mita won 3rd place in the Infrastructure and Digital Transformation Cluster. We are very proud of her achievement. Congratulations!

On July 10, the Graduating Scholars Plenary took place as the third session. All the graduating scholars were honored for their efforts and formally welcomed into the Roster of ADB-JSP Alumni. FSO staff also joined online to celebrate their accomplishments.
This conference provided an excellent opportunity for all scholars to strengthen their network and fellowship as members of the ADB‑JSP community.
A few glimpses of the gathering can be seen in the photos below.

2026.5.18
For the first time, we invited alumni to join the Welcome Gathering online.

To our surprise and delight, we received responses from more than 50 alumni expressing their interest in participating.
We were very happy and surprised to receive such positive responses, and we would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported this event.

On the day of the event, 18 alumni members joined the gathering online, except for those who were unable to participate due to work commitments.
During the “Alumni Global Insight Spotlight Session,” four alumni shared their experiences, professional journeys, and valuable insights with the new students and participants.
Following the session, participants asked questions and had a chance to interact directly with the alumni.

Although this was the first event of its kind organized by the FSO, we also received many messages from alumni who could not attend, saying they would like to be informed if similar opportunities are held in the future.
We were encouraged by this positive feedback and hope to organize more opportunities for alumni, current students, faculty members, and administrative staff to connect in the future.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for future alumni events and activities, please feel free to contact us.

Finally, to all of our alumni, thank you very much once again.
Seeing your achievements and continued success is a great joy for all of us, and we are always cheering for you from the university.

A welcome gathering for the new students (intake of April 2026) of the International Graduate Program on Civil and Environmental Engineering was held on May 14 in premises of Saitama University campus.
This time, 44 participants including 32 international students, faculty members, professors and administrative staff gathered.

As a new initiative this year, we invited alumni to join the Welcome Gathering online and share their messages with us. (More details will be introduced in the next post.)

During the event, new international students made brief self-introductions and a well prepared power-point presentation to introduce their home countries (culture, local cuisines, costumes, festivals, religions and tourist sights).
Later, all members enjoyed games together.
The welcome party for the new students seemed to bring everyone closer together.
Some photos are shared.
