یار کو ہم نے جا بجا دیکھا
‏کہیں ظاہر کہیں چھپا دیکھا

‏کہیں ممکن ہوا کہیں واجب
‏کہیں فانی کہیں بقا دیکھا

‏کہیں وہ در لباس معشوقاں
‏بر سر ناز اور ادا دیکھا

‏کہیں عاشق نیازؔ کی صورت
‏سینہ بریاں و دل جلا دیکھا

ذرا سی بات پر نمدیدہ ہوا کرتے تھے
ہم بھی کیا سادہ ہو پیچیدہ ہوا کرتے تھے

عکس بندی کی ہوس ان میں کہاں سے آئی
مہرباں ہاتھ تو نادیدہ ہوا کرتے تھے

اب ہمیں دیکھ کے لگتا تو نہیں ہے لیکن
ہم کبھی اس کے پسندیدہ ہوا کرتے تھے

تو نے کس موج میں یہ حال کیا ہے اپنا
لوگ کیا کیا تیرے گرویدہ ہوا کرتے تھے

تجھ سے پہلے بھی میرے راز تھے اک شخص کے پاس
فرق اتنا ہے کہ پوشیدہ ہوا کرتے تھے

He survived assassination attempts meant to erase him.
He lived through decades of crushing economic sanctions meant to break a nation.
He stood under relentless pressure—military, political, psychological—meant to force submission.
