𝗦𝗮 𝗜𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗴: 𝗥𝗙𝗡𝗦𝗛𝗦 𝘀𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲
Isinulat ni: 𝘑𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘢 𝘓𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘉. 𝘔𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘫𝘢

RFNSHS Strengthens Earthquake Preparedness Through School-Wide Drill
By Yohan Parras

Rodolfo C.G. Fariñas Jr. National Science High School (RFNSHS) successfully conducted a Provincial School-Wide Earthquake Drill on July 30, 2026, reinforcing the school's commitment to disaster preparedness and the safety of its learners and personnel.

The activity involved 133 students, 13 teaching and non-teaching personnel, and 8 barangay officials from Barangay 55-C Vira, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. The drill was conducted in compliance with Executive Order No. CAM 014-26, s. 2026, issued by the Office of the Governor of Ilocos Norte.

The earthquake drill was simultaneously implemented in schools across the province under the supervision of the Department of Education, in partnership with local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMCs). It also supports the implementation of the Comprehensive School Safety Framework, which promotes disaster preparedness, effective emergency response, and resilience among educational institutions.

During the orientation, School Principal, Dr. Hamilton C. Remigio emphasized the importance of earthquake preparedness by citing recent seismic events in Japan and Mindanao. He stressed that schools must ensure that learners and personnel possess the knowledge and practical skills necessary to respond effectively during earthquakes and other emergencies.

Meanwhile, School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) Alternative Coordinator Mr. Dancel reminded participants to take earthquake drills seriously, stating, "Dapat iwasan natin ang matawa sa ganitong panahon, dahil tayo rin ang mahihirapan kapag dumating na ang panahong mangyari rin dito ang ganoong kalakas na mga lindol."

To further strengthen disaster awareness, Barangay Kagawad Loreta G. Salvador, together with other barangay officials, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), and the Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS), conducted an information session on earthquake hazards, preparedness measures, and the vital role of community cooperation during emergencies. They also encouraged students to remain vigilant, prepared, and committed to practicing proper earthquake response.

Dr. Remigio concluded the activity by announcing that RFNSHS will continue to conduct both scheduled and unannounced earthquake drills throughout the school year to reinforce emergency preparedness and cultivate a strong culture of safety and resilience among the school community.
