✨🎌 Learn Japanese Through Culture: Setsubun & Mamemaki! 🎌✨
Have you ever heard of 節分 (せつぶん, Setsubun)? This is a traditional Japanese event that marks the change of seasons, especially the transition from winter to spring! 🌸
One of the most famous Setsubun customs is 豆まき (まめまき, Mamemaki), or "bean-throwing." Families throw roasted soybeans (福豆, ふくまめ) while shouting:
👹 「鬼は外!福は内!」 (おにはそと!ふくはうち!)
💬 "Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!"
🚪 "Out with the demons! In with good fortune!"
This is believed to drive away evil spirits and bring happiness into the home. After throwing the beans, people eat the number of beans equal to their age for good luck! 🍀
🎯 Boost Your Japanese While Celebrating Setsubun!
🔸 Kanji practice: 節 (せつ, season) + 分 (ぶん, division)
🔸 New vocabulary: 鬼 (おに, oni/demon), 豆 (まめ, beans), 福 (ふく, fortune)
