新しい物を造るときは不安にあるけど
出来上がった時の喜びは大きい
そして毎回のように学びの瞬間がある
だから大工は生涯勉強する事が出来て

Tea Room Mizuya
A standing-style mizuya
We follow traditional methods without simplifying them,
while tailoring the design to the user’s needs.
I always feel a bit anxious when creating something new,
but the joy when it’s finished is immense.
And almost every time, there’s a moment of learning.
That’s why carpenters can keep learning throughout their lives
and continue to improve their skills indefinitely.
It’s just so much fun.

削ろう会三木大会に行って来ました！

今回も大阪工業技術専門学校の引率

今回の学生の部はレベル高かったです！

そんな中で見事に2位に輝いてくれたのは

とても嬉しい出来事でした

他の学生達もすごく健闘してくれた

私が普段から技術指導で心掛けている事は

学生に何かしらのスイッチがオンになるきっかけになれれば良いかなと思ってやっています

今回の削ろう会に参加して

次も参加したいって言ってくれて

なんだか嬉しい気持ちになりました

あと、私的には材の慣らし作業をやる合間に

どれだけ薄く削れるかを目標にしてやってますが

数字的には良かったですが厚みは斜めなってしまったのが残念でしたw

色々な方々とも出会えてとても充実した二日間でした！

関係者の方々本当にお疲れ様でした！

Kezurou-kai
I went to the Miki Tournament!

Once again, I led a group from the Osaka College of Technology (OCT).

The level of competition in the student division was incredibly high this time!

Amidst that, it was a truly joyful moment
to see one of our students take second place.

The other students also put up a great fight.

In my daily technical coaching,
I always try to do my best in the hope
that it might serve as a catalyst to “flip a switch” for the students.

After participating in this Kezurou-kai,

they told me they want to join again next time,

which made me feel really happy.

Also, personally, while I was taking breaks from breaking in the wood,

I set a goal to see how thin I could shave it.

The thinness turned out well, but unfortunately, the thickness ended up slanted lol.

But that’s part of the fun, too.

I got to meet so many different people this time—it was a very fulfilling two days!

To everyone involved, thank you so much for all your hard work!

茶室水屋腰板の蟻桟

12mmに仕上がった杉板の裏に蟻桟を仕込む

薄い板に蟻桟を硬く仕込み過ぎると桟の部分で折れ曲がってしまうので程よい硬さで仕込む

幅の広い無垢板は伸縮するので動いても割れない様な仕事にしておく事が必要

木と木を組む仕事はやっていて本当に楽しい

Ant-style battens for a tea room wainscoting

Installing ant-style battens on the back of 12mm-thick cedar boards

If the battens are secured too tightly to thin boards, the boards may bend at the battens, so they must be installed with just the right amount of tension

Since wide solid wood boards expand and contract, it is essential to construct them in a way that prevents cracking even when they move

Working with wood is truly enjoyable

茶室水屋　腰板の鉋がけ

幅530 mm、長さ2000 mm 厚さ12 mm

笹杢の赤杉を削るのは久しぶり

やはり赤杉の鉋がけは本当に難しい

逆目を止めようとすると艶が落ち

艶をを出そうとすると逆目が止まらない

鉋枕が出ない様に刃の調子を変えると

その差で艶にムラが出来る

思っていたよりも時間がかかってしまった

常にやってないと腕が鈍ってしまうと痛感した

Tea Room: Planing the Wainscoting
Width: 530 mm, Length: 2000 mm, Thickness: 12 mm It’s been a while since I last planed red cedar from Sasamoku.

Planing cedar really is difficult.

If I try to eliminate the grain, the sheen disappears,

but if I try to bring out the sheen, the grain doesn’t disappear.

If I adjust the blade depth to prevent the plane from catching,

that difference causes unevenness in the luster.

It took longer to finish than I expected.

I keenly realized that if I don’t practice constantly, my skills will get rusty.

片引きの建具を戸袋に収納する為の仕掛け

何も無い様に見える柱が扉の様に回転して開く

え！？何これ！ってなる様な仕掛けの納まりを

バッチリ納めれた時の達成感は最高に楽しい！

これだから大工は面白い！

That moment when you pull off a design that makes people go, "Whoa! What is this?!"

The sense of accomplishment when you nail it is absolutely thrilling!

R壁の吹抜け階段

板幅、25㎜の大鋸目の板

厚みは2種類

ランダムに張ってジョイントもランダム

階段の段鼻や蹴込み、壁との取り合い、

フットライトの位置、始まりから終わりまで

全てにおいて完璧な割付で張った

圧巻！！苦労したけど最高にカッコいい空間になった

Open-riser staircase on the R wall

25mm-wide boards with large saw marks

Two different thicknesses

Installed randomly with random joints

From the stair nosings and risers to the transitions with the walls,

the placement of the under-stair lighting, and every detail from start to finish—

everything was laid out with a perfect layout

Absolutely stunning!! It was a lot of work, but the result is an incredibly cool space

気分的にこの鉋使ってやろうっ！
って瞬間あるでしょ？

Small Plane by Teruhide Ishido

I usually use those cheap, sharp small planes from the wholesaler, but

how should I put it?

There are moments when you just think,
“I’m going to use this plane today!”

It’s not like I can’t get the job done without it,

but it’s like a lucky outfit—

or maybe you’d call it a “lucky tool”?

Using a tool like that just feels good, doesn’t it?

下地窓の墨壺　材種　桑

糸車を下地窓の形に彫り
結束線で蔓の様に編み込んだ

軽子は茶道で使う棗の形

数寄屋建築に携わるなら墨壺もそれっぽいのが良いなと憧れていた

先輩の墨壺を見た時の衝撃は未だに覚えている

そして先輩の墨壺をオマージュして作った

ただ、その先輩の墨壺の完成度には程遠い

自分の周りに腕の良い先輩が居る環境は本当に有り難かった

勿論、そう言った環境で仕事がしたかったから
それなりに努力もしたし

いつでもチャンスを掴める姿勢でいた

環境さえ良ければ誰でも良くなる訳ではないし

悪いからと言って腐る訳でもない

全ては自分次第

この人の様になりたい！って自分が思っていた人にはまだまだ程遠いけど

誰かの目標になれる様な自分ではいたい
まだまだ道のりは長いな

Inkwell for a Sh*taji Window | Material: Mulberry

Carved into the shape of a Sh*taji window
and woven like vines using binding wire

The "Karuko" is shaped like a natsume used in the tea ceremony

I had always admired the idea that if I were to work on Sukiya-style architecture, the inkwell should look the part

I still remember the shock I felt when I first saw my senior’s inkwell

And so, I created this as an homage to my senior’s inkwell

However, it falls far short of the perfection of that senior’s inkwell

I was truly grateful to be in an environment surrounded by skilled seniors

Of course, since I wanted to work in that kind of environment,
I put in a fair amount of effort,

and I always kept myself ready to seize any opportunity.

It’s not as if anyone can improve just because the environment is good,

nor does a bad environment mean you’ll give up.

It all depends on yourself.

I’m still a long way from the person I once looked up to and thought, “I want to be like them!”

But I want to be the kind of person who can serve as a goal for others.
I still have a long way to go.
