Posh or Not シリーズ、もう一つ🇬🇧
これはちょっとややこしい話です。supper は実は「上品寄り」の言い方で、ある種のイギリス人家庭がくつろいだ夕食を指すときに使います。

dinner は誰にでも通じる無難な言い方ですが、フォーマルな食事という意味にもなります。ちなみに、夜に "tea" を勧められたら、それは飲み物ではなく食事のことです。

Hello! One more for the Posh or Not series…

This one's properly confusing: supper is actually the posher word – it's what a certain kind of British family calls a relaxed, informal evening meal at home.
Dinner is the safe, universal choice everyone understands, though it can also mean a smart, formal meal. And if someone offers you "tea" in the evening, that's a meal too – not just a drink.

私は7月が大好きです。この青空はロンドンのもの…バッキンガム宮殿、見つけられますか？箕面の7月はまた別の話ですが。☔ どちらかといえば、冬より夏派。だからこそ、ロアルド・ダールのこの言葉がとても響くんです：「もし自分で決められるなら、1月をなくしてその分7月を増やすのに。」

その理由のひとつが、もうすぐ夏休みだということ。私自身も7月の最終週はお休みをいただきます。今年の夏、海外へ行く予定がある方は、出発前に英語をブラッシュアップしたり、基本を学んだりするレッスンを数回入れてみませんか？お早めにどうぞ！

I love July. This blue sky? That's London...can you spot Buckingham Palace? I know...Minoh has other ideas in July. ☔ Anyway, I'm definitely more of a summer person than a winter one – which is probably why Roald Dahl's quote resonates with me so much: "If I had my way, I'd remove January from the calendar altogether and have an extra July instead."

One of the reasons I love it is that the holidays are coming up. I'll be away for the last week of July, so if you're heading abroad this summer, why not book a couple of sessions to brush up your English – or learn the basics before you go? Book now!

Read this one with my students today. A bear, a missing hat and a very suspicious rabbit. I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen – funny, smart and a little dark. Highly recommended.

I use this one a lot. Probably too much.

It's how you move on without making a thing of it. Change the subject, wrap something up, get back on track – anyway does all of that.

Small word but very useful. Anyway, try and have a good Monday 😉
