We had such a wonderful time celebrating Mother’s Day here at Kspace! 💐

Our students spent the day creating special surprises for the amazing mums in their lives. We painted beautiful flowers onto tote bags, made heartfelt cards with our photos hidden inside, and sang sweet songs like Skidamarink together with lots of smiles and love.

But the biggest surprise of all? A very special guest visited Kspace… Kokomo’s own mum, Komomama!! 🌺✨ The children were so excited to meet her, and she brought so much joy and laughter to our celebration.

It was a lovely day full of creativity, music, kindness, and appreciation as we celebrated all the incredible mothers, grandmothers, and families in our community.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Kspace! ❤️

The Chrysalis students had a fantastic time exploring The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle! Inspired by the story, the children worked together to create a large-scale chameleon puzzle, featuring all the different animal parts that made the chameleon so wonderfully mixed up. Using big cardboard pieces, they experimented with mixed media, painting, colouring, and decorating sections such as wings, noses, legs, and more. Each piece was unique, full of bright colours and creative ideas. The children loved seeing how their individual parts came together to form one giant chameleon.

Our Butterfly floor transformed into a vibrant art exhibition this week! The classroom became a gallery filled with the children’s incredible creations, including paintings, sculptures, and more, all inspired by our recent theme. The children took on exciting roles as visitors, ticket clerks, and art experts, bringing the experience to life through imaginative role-play. As guests wandered through the exhibition, our young artists proudly explained their work, discussing colours, shapes, and forms with growing confidence. They also shared their knowledge of famous artists such as Arcimboldo and Van Gogh, making meaningful connections between their own creations and well-known masterpieces. It was a wonderful celebration of creativity, expression, and learning, and the children truly shone as they showcased their artistic journeys in such a fun and engaging way!

The Bees and Beetles were excited to see Teacher Simon as our guest teacher for our Honeycomb project! He showed us the geometry of hexagons and their importance to bees and their beehives. Inspired by this we created our own honeycomb structures to make bee homes in our classroom!

The Bees and Beetles got to take a trip to the nature park to learn about nature and the minibeasts around us! Along the way we found fallen leaves, sticks and flowers and collected them for our Andy Goldsworthy Art project. We even stumbled across some minibeasts along the way! Mini-beasts are everywhere! Look, listen, stop and stare!

In the Big Bugs Bees and Beetles class, our current theme is “The World Around Us.” We are having so much fun learning how plants grow from a simple seed to beautiful, leafy green goodness! In fact we planted our own seeds and carefully tended them in our handmade self created pots. How wonderful the world around us truly is!

In the Super Bugs class, we learned about one of Japan’s most celebrated artists, Hokusai! While lots of Japan’s art from the past depicted nobles and members of the Imperial Court, Hokusai took a different approach. He depicted everyday people living their ordinary lives! His most famous series of work is “36 Views of Mount Fuji,” which includes his masterpiece, “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa.” We did a fabulous job capturing the counties of the waves, the fishermen braving the rough seas, and Fuji looming in the distance. We even used modelling paste to capture the bubbly seafoam and the snowcap of the mountain!

Nursery, Chrysalis 2 to 3s: 'Sneak Peek Day'.

Parents of the age 2 to 3s were invited in to a special viewing of the children in action. Our regular exciting range of theme-related action stations and sensory tables were set up. Mummies and daddies waited patiently and silently behind an observation window, where they were able to watch the children's morning session. This works so beautifully because children are completely oblivious to their parents' presence, and they can interact in a natural and organic way with their friends and teachers, without feeling observed. The flow of the day remains undisturbed, they play with confidence and interact naturally. This method has worked so beautifully for us and was introduced during the COVID-19 period, but it's such a perfect way to observe the children in a totally natural setting that we have continued it for years!

In the Super Bugs class this week, we built up some excitement for our field trip to Tokyo Tower! What better way to do so than by making our very own models of Tokyo Tower with upcycled materials! We first got a look at all of the hard work that went into erecting this magnificent structure, and then it was time to get to work! We planned like real architects, deciding how and where to use the materials available to us. We learned that building wide at the base allowed us to build even taller than we thought we could! Fantastic work, everyone!

We had quite a royal time in the Super Bugs class! We learned about the most famous Egyptian pharaoh of all, Tutankhamun. While he sadly lived a short life, his tomb was one of the best preserved ever discovered in Egypt. Were were absolutely captivated by the richly gilded details of his funerary mask, inlaid with precious stones. We thought it would be amazing to make our very own pharaoh masks! We carefully sketched out the details on our blank headdresses, from the regal stripes to the vulture and cobra that grease the forehead. After outlining everything in black, it was time to paint! We used bright acrylics and some fabulous gold paint, resulting in masks fit for a king!

This week we explored spiders....amazing arachnid predators!

Both insects and arachnids have legs, but arachnids have eight and pedipalps. We compared web design, asking which is stronger, weaker than others, or the best for trapping prey.

Through building webs and playing our “Pesky Bug” game, we learned that smart structure and design are better than speed when catching food!
