Moomin International Kindergarten offers a personalised early childhood education and care in English program with a dynamic learning Scandinavian approach for children to understand, create and connect the world. We stimulate children's innate curiosity and motivation to explore and learn by listening to their ideas, answering their questions and support their individual development, growth and learning. We surround children with inviting activities and materials in dynamic environments that engage the whole child providing opportunities that promote confidence and joy to collaborate, express their views and build friendships. Our Story

Moomin International Kindergarten offers Finnish style early childhood education and care to families in Tokyo in a peaceful, nurturing and magical environment that is in harmony with nature. Our Scandinavian interiors have been designed specially for children by Danish Architect Jens Martin Suzuki-Højrup of studio Hokuou.

Our mission is to nurture happy, confident and successful children while stimulating and encouraging them to become lifelong learners and positive contributors to society. We focus on the whole child and aim to nurture our children to grow into intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically strong and resilient adults.

Our learning philosophy embeds problem solving, collaboration and learning through play. We believe that integrating these highly acknowledged learning methods will help our children to strengthen their ability to engage in life as creative problem solvers and critical thinkers.

Children will experience kindergarten in a very similar way as if they were living in Scandinavia, but learning in English, spending time outdoors everyday and taking advantage of the rich international culture available in Tokyo.

Our kindergarten integrates the Finnish National Early Childhood Education and Care guidelines and Scandinavian learning traditions. Our educators are trained, mentored and empowered through Finnish education methods and encourage children in partnership with parents.

We operate as an international kindergarten in English, exposing children to Finnish, Swedish, Spanish and Japanese, weekly. We offer workshops integrating international experts, the arts and Japanese aspects. Our children are multilingual and will learn to be ambassadors of their own culture and background. They are exposed to all of the arts through different activities every day.

Our children bring their own lunch and children also participate in the preparation of meals. Nature and natural materials play an important role at our school, where our children, grow some of the food in our premises and learn sustainable environmental practices.

We offer half day and full day programs for children from 6months to 6 years old, after school workshops, birthday parties & flexible early care and education.

We are located on a quiet street in Akasaka 2choume, within 5 minutes walk from Tameikesanno and Akasaka stations, and within 5-10 minutes walking distance to several parks, museums embassies, and more. Our programs include: Early stimulation development nursery program for babies 0-1.5yrs old, 9am-12pm or 1pm to 4pm, JPY6,000/day Early childhood Ed program for kids 1.5-3yrs, 3-5 days, 9am-2pm, see Fee page Pre-school program for kids 3-6 yrs old, 5days/week 9am-2pm, see Fee page After school Creative Club in English Wednesdays & Fridays from 3-5 pm for kids 2-10 yrs old, JPY6,000/day Baby & Mom class with music, story telling, exercise and dance! Fridays at 3pm-3:45pm FREE. Maker Workshop for kids 1-6yrs old, Thursdays @3:00-3:45pm, JPY3,000 Free Mommy and Me Class: Fridays @2:15pm. A chance to connect with others with small children (no age limits). Each class is different and is full of music, creativity and fun.
