🐝📚 Tokyo Spelling Bee Highlights 📚🐝
On March 14th, two of our talented Laurus students competed in the Tokyo Spelling Bee, organized by Tokyo Academics and hosted by Nishimachi International School.
In the Grade 3/4 (Year 4/5) division, our Year 5 representative Hiyori had an impressive run, battling through 11 rounds to place 4th out of 32 competitors! Having competed last year as well, she climbed 5–6 places in the rankings, now standing proudly among the top five spellers.
In the Grade 5/6 (Year 6/7) division, our Year 7 representative also performed wonderfully, advancing to the 6th round and outlasting many strong competitors along the way.
We are incredibly proud of our Laurus spellers for their hard work and determination. A big thank you to Tokyo Academics for organizing such a fantastic event and for inviting us to participate. We look forward to seeing even more Laurus students take part next year! ✨

It was wonderful to see their energy, teamwork, and big smiles as they enjoyed the adventure together.
Experiences like this help children build confidence, develop physical skills, and create happy memories with their friends. 💛

🚀 Mission to Mars
In the last week of February, our Year 3–9 students took part in a special “Mission to Mars” experience at Laurus.
With guidance from our Science Advisor Dr. Paul Cizdziel, students explored the Red Planet through hands-on activities and discussions about future human missions to Mars.
We were also honored to welcome ELSI planetary researcher Courteney Monchinski, who shared insights about Mars — including its moons, surface features, and how scientists explore the planet today.
From analyzing satellite images to exploring planetary scale models, students experienced how science helps us understand our universe.
✨ Inspiring the next generation of explorers and innovators.

February Theme: Food! 🍎🥦
This month, our little learners from Musashi Shinjo explored the theme of Food!
As part of our learning, the children visited a local supermarket to choose ingredients for our cooking activity. In the classroom, they also enjoyed a shopping role-play, practicing being little shoppers!
It was also time for Sweet Potato Ball Day! 🍠
The children mashed, mixed, and rolled the sweet potatoes with big smiles and proud hearts.
Through activities like choosing ingredients, role-playing shopping, and cooking together, this hands-on experience made learning extra special. 💛

"Prepare to be amazed by the opportunities your child will encounter." 🌟
Meet Someya, a Canadian mother who chose Laurus International Preschool during her family's relocation to Japan. Her son Dean's journey took him from mid-year newcomer to confident lead actor in the winter performance, all the while building a strong science foundation at just 4 years old, comfortably using phrases like "I hypothesize" in everyday conversation. When Dean returned to Canada, his kindergarten teacher quickly noticed what Laurus had given him: academic skills that made school work feel like a breeze, and an undeniable love of learning.
As we celebrate 25 years of Laurus excellence, we're sharing stories from Laurus families, teachers and partners alike, who found more than a school—they found a vibrant learning community that puts science, hands-on experience and innovation at the forefront of education.

🐝 Laurus Spelling Bee Finals 🐝
Buzzing news! After intense spelling battles in classrooms and across year groups, the Laurus Spelling Bee reached its thrilling finale on February 28th.
The Y2–Y5 division wrapped up in under 20 minutes! Our champion was a charismatic Y3 representative, who won with the word “disability.” At one point he paused mid-word to think — and the whole room seemed to freeze and hold its breath with him!
The Y6–Y9 division moved even faster, finishing in under 8 minutes after just four lightning rounds. In the end, two Y6 students claimed Champion and 1st Runner-Up, with the winning word “manticores.”
A big thank you to all students, families, and staff who helped make the event such a success, and special thanks to Ms. Donna for supporting the competition.
Next stop: Tokyo Spelling Bee at Nishimachi International School on March 14th! We can’t wait to cheer on our Laurus spellers. 📚✨

✨ Laurus Dance Team Guest Workshop ✨
On February 25th, the Laurus Dance Team had the exciting opportunity to learn from , owner of Yoga-Rhythm Diana Tsuruda | Body Movement Expert, a body movement educator and competitive Latin dancer with experience across multiple dance styles at both the performance and instructional level.
Students first performed the routines they created for their January–February theme: Cultural × Street Dance Fusion Challenge. The showcase included fast-paced Afro-Latino inspired choreography, creative cultural mashups, and even a delicate yet powerful Guofeng (Chinese modern) and urban dance fusion piece.
Ms. Diana was very impressed by the students’ energy, creativity, and dedication.
Next, the team jumped into a fun round of Random Play Dance, where music plays at random and each dancer steps forward to freestyle when their song appears. The session ended with a Latin dance mini-workshop inspired by music from Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance, where students learned new steps and rhythms. 💃🔥
From the start of the Cultural × Street Dance Fusion projects to this inspiring workshop, our dancers challenged themselves, explored dance styles from around the world, and continued to grow as performers.
A huge thank you to Ms. Diana for visiting and sharing her expertise with our team!
