The first week of our collaboration between ABC International School and Tokyo Adventure Kids for an outdoor Summer Adventure has been a huge success despite the changeable weather! The scouts have hiked Mt. Tonosu and Mt. Tenranzan in Hanno, traversing dams and steep slopes, coming across small black frogs, songbirds and baby swallows, spiders of every shape and size and even the tracks and s**t of deer and boar. They have explored the Bubble Mountains and Rainbow Ropes of Showa Kinen Koen, visited the Fire Fighters Museum and climbed, splashed and built structures from wood at a Tokyo Mud Park. The Adventures will continue for the next three weeks and there are still some spaces available. Contact [email protected] for further details.

It is never too early to introduce equality. At ABC we celebrate ethnic diversity in our faculty and families. We believe in and practice wage equity for all staff. Children are the future and we want to be part of fostering empathy and acceptance through our teachings.💖

Our teachers made this video message to help our students understand the school closure, and what it means to them. It's so important to remember that children's worlds have been turned upside down as well, and to take the time to explain to them what is happening, and what the changes will look like for them in their lives. ABC teachers have stepped up to the plate and gone above and beyond to provide connection, learning, art, music & joy to their students online this week. We couldn't be more proud.

Sharing our covid-19 protocols that we are using at ABC International School in case it helps anyone. Feel free to use/edit/amend/personalize as needed.
We are taking the following additional precautions and appreciate your diligence in following our protocols for the safety of our school community:
1)No visitors are permitted in the school. All school tours are being conducted virtually.
2) The children will not go to the park for the time-being but we will open the track at ABC for the Owls children to ensure they still get outside and can still get exercise in the safest environment possible. Nest children will continue to play at our on-site playground.
3) We are now requesting that parents remain outside for drop-off and pick up and do not enter the building wherever possible. If there is something urgent to discuss please call ahead of time and follow the hand-sanitizer, slippers only and wear a mask. Please prepare your child that you will not be taking them into the building if they are used to you coming inside. Shoes will also be changed outside the building - we thank you for your co-operation with this.
4) Please take your child’s temperature every morning before school. We will ask you at drop-off for the reading and monitor temperatures very carefully and ask that if you are called due to your child having a fever that you come as quickly as possible to collect them. They will be taken to the office and asked to wear a mask until they can be collected. We will be checking temperatures throughout the day and recording them.
5) We are providing N95 masks for our staff to wear on public transit and our staff are under strict guidance to follow safety protocols themselves. As we do not want sick staff members coming to school please note that our ratios may change slightly but will still remain well within safety guidelines for preschool children.
6)We have added additional cleaning staff daily that will focus on disinfection of toys, disinfecting all surfaces and high touch areas. Staff are rotating throughout the day disinfecting high touch areas.
7)We are asking any family that has a member returning from High risk countries to keep children home from school for 14 days. Thank you for your understanding.
8)We circulate fresh air throughout the day. We have purchased HEPA air scrubbers in every room in the school which remove 99.97 of contaminants from the air.
9)We are keeping divisions autonomous and limiting interaction between floors.
The decision whether to attend school is very personal and factors are different for every family so attendance at school over the coming weeks is not mandatory in any way and if you decide to keep your child home for the time-being we will completely respect your decision.
We VALUE all of you and are thankful for your support. We are truly feeling our community spirit coming together.
As always please do let me know if you have any questions at all,
