Today, Capital Tokyo International School had their closing ceremony hosted by our own 5th grade class! The Head of School, Mr. Helman and the Head of Section, Mr. Bluett, thanked everyone for their hard work during the term and also handed out awards for the Space Walker projet, a recent group project in CTIS’s Project-Based Learning class. In closing, Mr. Helman reminded the students to stay safe, enjoy their summer holidays, and be ready to learn when school resumes this autumn. See everyone in September!

Soccer is out and Dodgeball is in! When the outside temperature is not too hot, students take their water bottles and hats to play outside. Recently, for outdoor recess CTIS students are having fun with three ball, dodgeball.The students have now progressed so that they can set up, takedown, and referee their own dodgeball games while also deciding teams. It is great to see the teamwork among students!

Teachers were trying out their activities and decorating their rooms for the Community Summer Festival this weekend. Some of the activities were a timed Slam Dunk, make your own personalized kaleidoscope or fan (uchiwa). The project room featured Snap circuits for students to explore how electricity works in an easily changeable circuit. We hope to do more fun outreach activities like this in the future!

民間ロケット🚀開発企業としてとして初めてJAXAから資金を調達したエコロケットの研究、開発を行なっているSpace WalkerさんとのコラボPBL「Let’s Build a Spaceship Considering SDGs」も中盤に差し掛かっております。G1からG5までの混合グループがそれぞれ企画したロケットの3Dモデルを作っています。

This month CTIS students have been experiencing their City As Classroom (CAC) field trips. Here is grade two visiting Tokyo’s Small World Miniature Museum. Students made connections to their Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are In Place In Time, by seeing past, present and potential future places for Tokyo and the world. Students also had the opportunity to try to make their own miniature ice cream cones like the objects featured in some of the miniature displays!

This week, the founder of CTIS, Mr. Sato, invited Grade 5 and Grade 7 students to visit the Tokyo Stock Exchange to participate in the opening of the trading day for a company called Globee! Students and staff were able to meet with the CEO of the company, and wonder about their own career futures and personal goals. This is just one example of how CTIS is connecting education with authentic real-world experiences. Students and staff are looking forward to more thought-provoking experiences in the future!

In STEAM class students are starting a unit on robotics. Students used an interface in the form of a circuit board to communicate with a computer by touching a self-made drawing. First, students drew their own pictures of characters and robots and gave them some life. Then, students wrote four direct commands on the paper and created their own controller with buttons using coloured clay. When students played the buttons, they were able to play a Super Mario Game made on Scratch!
