New Aquatics Manager Stephen Kuhlke wasn’t always a fan of the water, but as he explains, “when I overcame that worry, the real magic began.”

A proud Eagle Scout, Boy Scouts of America Honor Medal recipient, and master’s degree holder in athletic administration, Kuhlke first came to Japan through a college summer job at the US military base in Yokosuka. His career then took him across Asia, including 12 years at Taipei American School where he rebuilt the K-12 physical education system and coached championship-winning swim teams.

But to Kuhlke, what matters most is who his swimmers become along the way.

“If a swimmer graduates as a faster athlete, that’s wonderful. If they’re also a stronger teammate and a more compassionate person, that’s far more meaningful to me.”

Read more about Stephen in August’s INTOUCH and say hello at the Sky Pool!
