【9月の「みんなの森をつくる会」開催のお知らせ🌿】

9月の「みんなの森をつくる会」は、9月6日(日)に開催します！

今回の活動は、前回の続きです。

前回整備した調整池をはじめ、これまで森の中で手掛けてきた場所をもう一度観察します。

「どのように変化しているのか」
「なぜこのような変化が起きているのか」
「これからどうしていくのか」

作業を始める前に、実際の森の変化を見ながらみんなで考えてみましょう。

森づくりは、ただ手を入れるだけではありません。
観察し、考え、そしてまた手を入れる。
その繰り返しの中で、森との付き合い方を学んでいきます。

今回も、どんな発見があるのか楽しみです🌲

初心者もベテランも、子どもから大人まで大歓迎！

Forest of Dreams – September Session 🌿

Our September Forest of Dreams gathering will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

This month, we will continue the work from our previous session.

Before beginning the work, we will observe the areas we have worked on so far, including the retention pond.

How have they changed?
Why have they changed?
And how should we care for them in the future?

By observing the forest and thinking about these questions together, we can better understand how our actions affect the environment.

Forest stewardship is not simply about working in the forest. It is about observing, thinking, and then taking action—again and again.

We’re looking forward to seeing what we discover this time.

Everyone is welcome—beginners, experienced participants, children, and adults alike!

【8月の「鍛治小屋プロジェクト」開催のお知らせ🛖】

伝統的な手法で小屋を建ててみませんか？
Mt. Fuji Wood Culture Societyでは、毎月一回「鍛治小屋プロジェクト」として、木・竹・土・石といった自然素材だけを使い、手道具だけで小屋をつくるワークショップを行っています。

次回は8月23日(日)に開催します！
今回の内容は「土壁づくり」です！

5月には大工工事編が無事に終わり、小屋の骨組みと屋根が形になりました。今回はいよいよ「土壁づくり」に挑戦します。土壁は、土と藁などを混ぜてつくる、日本の伝統的な壁の工法です。竹と紐で編んだ下地(小舞)に土を塗り重ねていくことで、調湿性や断熱性に優れた壁ができあがります。今回は埼玉から一流の左官職人さんが来てくださるので、本格的な土壁づくりの技をぜひ間近で見て、体験してください！

初心者から経験者まで、どなたでも歓迎です。自然素材と向き合いながら、一緒に小屋を育てていきましょう🪵

[August "Kajigoya (Blacksmith Hut) Project" Announcement 🛖]

Want to try building a hut using traditional techniques?

At Mt. Fuji Wood Culture Society, we hold the "Kajigoya Project" once a month — a workshop where we build a hut using only natural materials (wood, bamboo, earth, and stone) and hand tools.

Our next session will be held on Sunday, August 23rd!

This time, we'll be working on "earthen wall building"!

In May, we successfully completed the carpentry phase, and the hut's frame and roof took shape. This time, we're finally tackling earthen walls. Earthen wall (tsuchikabe) is a traditional Japanese wall-building technique made by mixing soil with straw and other materials. Layers of earth are applied over a bamboo-and-rope lattice base (komai), creating walls with excellent humidity and heat insulation properties. A master plasterer is joining us from Saitama for this session, so come see and experience authentic earthen wall techniques up close!

Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experienced participants. Let's work with natural materials together and help this hut grow 🪵

Forest of Dreams – August Session 🌿

Our August Forest of Dreams gathering will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

This month’s theme:
🌱 Restoring the Retention Pond

Many years ago, there were plans to build apartments in this forest. As part of that project, a retention pond was excavated.

Today it appears to be little more than a large depression in the ground, but because it creates a unique environment, it may support rare plants and wildlife.

This month, we will restore the pond while observing the ecosystem that has developed there. We look forward to discovering what we can find together.

Everyone is welcome—beginners, experienced participants, children, and adults alike!

【5月の「みんなの森をつくる会」活動報告🌿】

5月2日・3日に「みんなの森をつくる会」を開催しました！
今回は、
・羊の毛刈り
・炭作り
・苗木の移植
・シガラの状態確認
に取り組みました。

羊たちはすっきりと夏仕様に🐑
刈り取った羊毛も、今後さまざまな活用方法を考えていきます。
炭作りでは、前回に続いて炭窯を使用。
少しずつ経験を積み重ねながら、より良い炭作りを目指しています🔥
また、苗木の移植も行いました。
これから何十年もかけて森を育てていく、小さくても大切な一歩です。
以前に設置したシガラの状態確認も行いました。
実際に時間が経過した様子を観察することで、森の中でどのように機能しているのかを学ぶ良い機会となりました。
森づくりは派手な作業ばかりではありませんが、一つひとつの積み重ねが未来の森につながっていきます。

Forest of Dreams – May Activity Report 🌿

On May 2–3, we gathered for another Forest of Dreams workshop!
This month’s activities included:
• Sheep shearing
• Charcoal making
• Transplanting young trees
• Checking the condition of our brushwood fences (shigara)

The sheep are now ready for the warmer season, and we are excited to explore future uses for the wool 🐑
We also continued our charcoal-making project, building on what we learned from previous firings and improving the process step by step 🔥
In addition, we transplanted young trees that will become part of the forest’s future for decades to come.
We also inspected the shigara structures installed in previous sessions. Observing how they have changed over time gave us valuable insight into how they function within the forest ecosystem.

そんな常識を覆し続けてきた木工作家、大久保公太郎氏による5日間の集中講座を開催します。
南京鉋で生み出す、美しいヘラやスプーン。
技術だけじゃない。なぜこの形なのか。なぜ売れるのか。どう続けていくのか。
大久保氏が長年かけて積み上げてきたものを、この5日間で惜しみなく伝えます。

表面的な体験講座ではありません。
道具の扱い、研ぎ、加工技術。

【2026年4月の「鍛治小屋プロジェクト」活動報告🛖🔥】

4月の「鍛治小屋プロジェクト」では、引き続き屋根づくりを進めました。
手作業だからこそ時間はかかりますが、その分、素材の性質や昔の知恵を体で感じながら進めることができました。
屋根の工程では、雨や風を受け止めるための構造を考えながら作業を進行。
参加者それぞれの経験や工夫も加わり、とても良い時間となりました。
1日目の夜には恒例の小さなパーティーも開催🎉作業後にみんなで囲む食事と会話は、このプロジェクトの楽しみのひとつです。

そして次回は、5月16日・17日に開催予定です🗓️引き続き屋根づくりを進めながら、少しずつ完成へ近づけていきます。

【The Forge Construction Project – April Activity Report 】

In April’s Forge Construction Project, we continued working on the roof construction.
Because everything is done by hand, the process takes time, but it also allows us to deeply experience the character of the materials and the wisdom of traditional building methods.
During the roofing work, we carefully considered how the structure would withstand rain and wind. Each participant brought their own ideas and experience, making the work both meaningful and enjoyable.
On the evening of the first day, we also held our usual small party 🎉
Sharing food and conversation together after a day of work is one of the special joys of this project.

We will continue building the roof and gradually move closer to completion.

世界でも有数の、「森とともに生きる文化」です。

でも今、その伝統は少しずつ失われつつあります。

このプロジェクトではそんな伝統に基づき、木を切るところから始め、自分の手で刻み、組み、建て、
そして最後には森へ木を植えます。

森と人がどうつながっているのか。
それを、頭ではなく「体で」感じる1週間です。

大工さんと一緒に、本物の小屋づくり。
森で遊び、木にふれ、仲間と力を合わせてつくる時間。

ただの体験じゃない。
これからの未来につながる学びが、ここにあります。

【4月の「みんなの森をつくる会」活動報告と5月開催のお知らせ】

4月の「みんなの森をつくる会」では炭焼きに挑戦しました🔥

今回は実験として、大谷石で作った炭窯に初めて火入れを行い、本格的な炭作りに取り組みました。自分たちの手で作った炭窯に火を入れる瞬間は、特別な時間でした。

炭窯が冷めるのを待つ間には、森のシガラ作りも実施。自然の中で体を動かす心地よさを感じる時間となりました。

そして2日後、炭窯を開けると、しっかりとした炭が完成。72kgの原木から14.5kgの炭ができ、集炭率は20％を超えました。試行錯誤の成果を皆で喜びました。

Forest of Dreams – April Report & May Announcement 🌿🔥

In April, we tried charcoal making for the first time using a kiln built from Oya stone. Lighting it ourselves was a special moment.

While waiting for it to cool, we built brushwood fences (shigara) and enjoyed working in nature.

Two days later, we opened the kiln and produced 14.5 kg of charcoal from 72 kg of wood—a yield of over 20%.

Next session: May 2–3, 2026 🗓️
Held monthly (first weekend, subject to change).
