Increasing Vocabulary Through Games

Learning new words doesn’t have to mean memorizing long vocabulary lists.

In today’s lesson, students raced to identify pictures, remember vocabulary, and use English before ringing the bell. The game encouraged quick thinking, active participation, and lots of English communication.

When students are having fun, they are more likely to remember new words and use them confidently.

Through simple games like this, students develop:

Making Friends Across the World Through English

There was a lot of excitement today as our students read bilingual letters from their new friends in Australia.

As part of our Penpal Project, students are exchanging letters with children from our partner school, St. Paul Primary School in Melbourne, Australia.

For many students, this is their first opportunity to use English to communicate with children living in another country. Suddenly, English becomes more than a school subject—it becomes a way to share ideas, ask questions, and build real friendships.

Seeing the smiles, curiosity, and excitement as students read each letter reminds us why authentic communication is so important. When students have a real audience and a real purpose for using English, learning becomes meaningful and memorable.

Projects like this help students develop:

• Reading skills
• Writing skills
• Communication skills
• Cultural awareness
• Confidence in English

Most importantly, students discover that English can connect them with people all around the world.

今日は、生徒たちがオーストラリアの新しいお友達から届いたバイリンガルレターを嬉しそうに読んでいました。

ALISのペンパルプロジェクトでは、オーストラリア・メルボルンにある提携校、St. Paul Primary School の子どもたちと手紙の交換を行っています。

多くの生徒にとって、海外に住む同年代の子どもたちと英語でコミュニケーションを取るのは初めての経験です。

英語は単なる学校の教科ではなく、自分の考えを伝えたり、質問したり、友情を育んだりするための大切なコミュニケーションツールになります。

手紙を読みながら見せてくれる笑顔やワクワクした表情を見るたびに、「本物のコミュニケーション」がどれほど大切かを実感します。

Can a game improve English skills?

Today’s private one-on-one lesson started with a balancing challenge. Before placing each block, the student answered a question in English. As the tower grew taller, the questions became more challenging, requiring greater concentration, communication, and confidence.

EIKEN 2026-1 Successfully Conducted

On May 30, 2026, ALIS Eikaiwa successfully administered the EIKEN 2026-1 Examination as an official EIKEN test venue.

Students challenged themselves at various levels, including Grade 5, Grade 4, Grade 3, Pre-2, Pre-2 Plus, and Grade 2.

Congratulations to all examinees for their hard work and dedication. While test results are important, the effort, perseverance, and commitment shown throughout the preparation process are equally valuable achievements.

Today, Teacher Cess guided our JHS Advanced Class at ALIS Aikawa through one of the most important and challenging parts of Eiken Grade Pre-2 preparation—essay writing.

Writing is more than simply putting words on paper. Students need to learn how to organize their ideas, support their opinions with clear reasons, and communicate their thoughts logically and effectively in English. During today’s lesson, students practiced structuring essays, developing supporting points, and expressing their opinions with confidence.

These skills help students succeed not only in Eiken but also in school presentations, high school entrance examinations, and future academic challenges. Learning how to express ideas clearly and logically is a valuable life skill that extends far beyond the classroom.
