🏀 Summer is just around the corner! ☀️
While some of our club activities have come to an end for the school year, many exciting programs and lessons are still taking place at KIS.

A few weeks ago, we were thrilled to welcome two players from the Kyoto Hannaryz basketball team to work with and inspire our students. It was a fantastic opportunity for our young athletes to learn new skills, gain valuable insights, and experience training with professional players.

A special thank you to Alex Mone Hall, who generously donated a pair of his signed basketball shoes. These shoes will be awarded to the student who demonstrates the greatest commitment, effort, and improvement throughout the basketball program and is selected as the Most Dedicated Student of the Year.

We are incredibly grateful to the Kyoto Hannaryz for their support and for helping to inspire the next generation of student-athletes at KIS.

♟️ KIS Students Shine at Japan's Largest Scholastic Chess Tournament! ♟️

Fourteen KIS students travelled to Marist Brothers International School to compete in Japan's largest scholastic chess event, bringing together more than 14 schools from across the Kansai and Nagoya regions.

Our students achieved outstanding success:

🏆 Lower Elementary Team Champions
🥈 Upper Elementary Team – 2nd Place

A special congratulations goes to Sota (Grade 1), who was crowned the Lower Elementary Individual Champion. In a remarkable performance, Sota secured 6 wins out of 7 rounds and defeated an undefeated opponent in the final round to claim the championship title.

We are incredibly proud of all our students for demonstrating determination, strategic thinking, resilience, and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the competition.

A heartfelt thank you to Marist Brothers International School for hosting this wonderful event and providing students with an opportunity to compete, learn, and build friendships through chess.

🌍🎉 KIS Festival 2026 — A Day to Remember! 🎨🌈

There was a bit of concern that it might rain yesterday, but luckily the weather turned out to be wonderful. The spirit of our community shone brightly at this year’s KIS Festival — one of the biggest and most beloved events on the Kyoto International School calendar! 💙🐯

Organized with heart and dedication by our incredible PTA, this annual celebration brought together families, students, staff, and friends for a truly global experience. From delicious international and local foods to inspiring student artwork, from the art exhibition to performances and participation from our strategic partners — there was something for everyone to enjoy! 🥘🛍️🎭

We were especially honored to welcome back Mayor Matsui, who shared meaningful reflections on the role of international schools in Kyoto’s future and how international schools can help the development of Kyoto.

We also extend our gratitude to the Lions Club Muromachi for their continuous support.

We were further honored by the presence of:
