October 25th Karate No He ! 空手の日
As many of you know :
Karate was originally known as Toudi which translates to Chinese Hand.
However, that was about to change on this day in 1936 when meeting of Karate Masters from Okinawa took place.
The meeting changed the future of Toudi forever.
At the meeting it was decided that:
• Toudi would now be called Karate – empty hand.
• Shogo titles such as Shihan, Kyoshi and Hanshi would be adopted.
• The adoption of the Judo rank and belt system.
• Competitions would take place.
On this day each year me some of my wonderful students, take part in the 100 Kata Challenge to celebrate the magic of Karate and all that it brings.
This event is by far one of my favorite in our yearly calendar, a fun challenge with so many benefits.
A huge thank you to the man who created this event James Pankiewicz and so kindly hosts it each year in the home of Karate, Okinawa !
And of course internationally also.
I love it so much !
I actually do it twice in one week..
Get on board ! Get off your holes and do some !
