バレーボールがアメリカで誕生して1世紀あまり。バレーボールはその技術の向上とともに、スポーツ振興のリード役として広く普及しました。現在、国際バレーボール連盟（FIVB）には、世界220カ国が加盟し、バレーボールはまさに国境を超えた世界共通のコミュニケーションツールとなっています。
バレーボールは、一つのボールを人の「手」を介して打ち合う、だれもが気軽に楽しめるスポーツです。（公財）日本バレーボール協会が主催する「バレーボールバンク」は、スポーツマン精神のもと、競技と同様にボールを介して世界の人々の手と手をつなぐ、国際貢献・国際交流を目的に設立しました。 「あなたのボールが、未来へのパスポート」をコンセプトに、学校やクラブで不要となったボールや用器具を、それらを必要とする海外の団体や学校に寄付する橋渡しの役割を果たします。
