Hoyu Sakuma's Calligraphy Classroom 【佐久間甫祐書道教室】

I visited the Mainichi Calligraphy Exhibition at the National Art Center, Tokyo, where one of my works is being exhibited.

毎日書道展で会友として展示されている国立新美術館に行ってきました。

 月かげは、小草にさしぬささやかで、眠れとさとす母のごとくに
尾上柴舟　おのえさいしゅう

月光は小さな草に清らかに射している。ささやいたりしないで、静かに眠りなさいと諭す母親のように。

Athalia, an international student in Tsuda University from London University came to practice calligraphy.

Supporters of Tsuda Global Friendship recommended my class. I’m very honored and happy to welcome her.

Her pet is a cat (猫) named 杏 (Anzu) that she wrote before.

After she returns to the U.K., she plans to continue studying calligraphy online with a tablet. I look forward to continuing our calligraphy lessons together online.

I received a handmade pouch from her as a token of appreciation.

I visited the Mainichi Calligraphy Exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum with my new students.

This is my rinsho (classical calligraphy copy) of the Shigeyuki-shū.
It will be displayed till July 24.

東京都美術館に、新しい弟子と一緒に毎日書道展を見に行ってきました。
私の重之集の臨書が展示されています。
展示は7月24日までです。

On July 10, the special day of 46,000 Days (Shiman Rokusen-nichi), the greatest festival dedicated to Kannon (Avalokiteśvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion) at Sankouin Temple, I had the privilege of watching a beautiful offering of the Kannon Dance.

As my own offering, I wrote the calligraphy "Namu Kanzeon Bosatsu" (Homage to the Bodhisattva of Compassion) and "Shiman Rokusen-nichi" (46,000 Days).

At Sankouin, I guide international guests through a special experience that combines shojin ryori (traditional Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) with sutra copying (shakyo), serving as the English interpreter as well.

I was deeply moved by the modern Japanese interpretation of the Heart Sutra, accompanied by guitar and piano during the Kannon Dance. It was a truly unforgettable experience.

The sumi-e artist Teisetsu Koyama, with whom I collaborate on Zen calligraphy projects, has also created a beautiful painting of Kannon.

Before the ceremony, I enjoyed the July seasonal shojin ryori. It was light, refreshing, and absolutely delicious.

I am grateful for such a meaningful and inspiring day.

三光院の観世音菩薩最大縁日の昨日、
四万六千日での奉納観音舞を拝見しました。
私は 南無観世音菩薩と　四万六千日と書いて奉納しました。

三光院で、外国人向けに、精進料理とセットの写経コースを開講しています。(通訳含む) 

般若心経を現代語で、ギターとピアノ付きの観音舞を拝見できて感激しました。

禅語書道でコラボをお願いしている墨絵の小山さんは観世音菩薩を描かれまた。

7月の精進料理をご馳走になりました。爽やかでおいしかったです。

She has been interested in Japanese anime since childhood and came to learn Japanese. The first thing she wants to do in her free time is learning calligraphy.
So she will keep coming till she leaves Japan in August.

津田塾大学の留学生が書道の稽古にいらしてくださいました。

子供の頃から、アニメを通し、日本にご興味を持ち、ロンドン大学で日本語を学ばれて、津田塾大学に、去年の8月より留学していらっしゃるアサリアさんが、日本で何を学びたいかと言う問いに、1番に書道とおっしゃったため、Tsuda Global Friendship から推薦いただき、8月に帰国なさるまで通ってくださるとのことです。

前回差し上げた小学3年生の習字の教科書のQRコードを読んでの、自主練習もなさっています。

津田塾大学の留学生が書道の体験にいらしてくださいました。

子供の頃から、アニメを通し、日本にご興味を持ち、ロンドン大学で日本語を学ばれて、津田塾大学に、去年の8月より留学していらっしゃるアサリアさんが、日本で何を学びたいかと言う問いに、1番に書道とおっしゃったためです。
私は津田塾大学の英文学科の代議員をしておりますが、その関係で
Tsuda Global Friendshipのサポーターが、留学生に紹介するのに安心な書道教室ということで、アサリアさんは、TG Fのサポーターに付き添われて、書道体験にいらっしゃいました。
書きたい字のリストもいただきましたが、本日は点画の練習に最適な、「友」を書いていただきました。
その後、TG Fのサポーターが書道具店に付き添ってくださいました。

8月に帰国なさるまで通ってくださるとのことです。
