There are actually 8 shrines located on the mountain behind the main hall of Miyajidake Shrine. Shichifuku Shrine (Seven Deities of Good Fortune) Inari Shrine
Fudo Shrine (the Deity who protects against disasters) Yorozu Jizo-son (the Guardian Deity of Children) Shrine for love (Koinomiya)
Sanpou-Koujin
Water shrine
Yakushi Shrine (the Deity who protects from all diseases)
These shrines are believed to make your dreams come true if you visit each one of them.

In the park behind the main shrine, there are old, restored houses. Among them, the steeply pitched thatched roof house is a must-see. These thatched-roof houses were built mainly in snowier northern prefectures. The spacious grassy square in front is the perfect place to relax and eat your lunch before taking a stroll. There is also a mini zoo to keep the children entertained.

Hikari no michi – The Road of Light. Twice a year (Oct & Feb) the sun sets in perfect alignment with the road creating a beautiful golden path all the way to the ocean.

The shrine is beautiful in all seasons, but we recommend the autumn!

We went to Fukutsu!

Fukutsu is our neighboring city, and has so many cool places to visit.

Miyajidake Jinja (shrine) is the largest shrine in Fukutsu City. The shrine is dedicated to the ancient Japanese Empress Jingu, who is said to have prayed for victory in battle from the top of the nearby mountain. The mountain itself is an easy hike of under an hour to the top for visitors keen on a walk through the forests.

The shrine is home to some unique (and very large!) objects, the first of which is the shimenawa (twisted rope talisman) which hangs above the entrance to the main hall of the shrine. At close to 11m in length and weighing an impressive 3 tons, it is the largest of its kind in Japan. Visitors can also see an enormous 2.2m-diameter taiko drum that is struck at midnight on New Year’s Eve, and Japan’s largest copper bell, weighing in at a whopping 450kg.
