It has been a wonderful first week of school for our Pre-Prep pupils, the youngest members of our MCT community, as they begin settling into their new routines, classrooms and learning experiences.

From exploring different learning areas and practising early writing skills to working collaboratively with classmates, our pupils have already been busy building confidence and curiosity in the classroom. They have also enjoyed meeting some of our specialist teachers and discovering new areas of the school through Expressive Arts, PE and Library lessons.

This week has also brought plenty of opportunities to share, communicate and learn more about one another, including special “show-and-tell” moments where pupils proudly introduced items from their All About Me bags.

We are so pleased to see our youngest pupils settling in so well and embracing their first week with enthusiasm.

An excellent achievement by Asuka in Prep 4!

In August 2026, Asuka received two Excellent Awards at the PTNA Piano Competition Regional Finals, following her Bronze Prize at the Bach Competition National Final in February.

Congratulations to Umika, one of our Remove pupils, on a wonderful summer of artistic achievement!

Umika was awarded a prize at the 76th GAKUTEN, a long-established Japanese art competition celebrating oil painting, with her work exhibited at The National Art Center, Tokyo.

She was also selected to participate in a video artwork directed by actor Issei Takahashi on the theme of “Involvement, Mixing,” which was exhibited at The National Art Center, Tokyo this summer.

And we’re back!

Today marked the first day of the 2026–27 school year at Malvern College Tokyo. We welcomed our pupils back to campus and officially began another year of learning, discovery, and growth together.

It was especially exciting to welcome all the new pupils joining the MCT community this year. From meeting new classmates and teachers to finding their way around campus, the day was filled with new beginnings and plenty of excitement.

Today also marked an important milestone for our Senior School, with our Lower Sixth (Diploma Programme) pupils beginning the year looking smart in their suits and ready to take on the next chapter of their Malvern journey.

We were delighted to welcome our Chief Executive, Jacqueline So, during Orientation Week.

Ms So spent time with our staff sharing the story of our school and the wider Malvern family, reflecting on the values, traditions and sense of community that continue to shape life at MCT.

For prospective families, this is what we hope you discover: a school where every day is filled with learning, discovery, adventure and opportunities to grow. Creating a safe, supportive and inclusive school community starts with every member of our team.

As part of Induction Week, our teaching and administrative staff took part in our annual safeguarding training. This important session focused on recognising concerns, supporting students and their families and working together to keep wellbeing at the heart of our school.

Led by Andrew Maguire, our designated safeguarding lead, who works closely with staff to ensure every student feels safe, supported and able to thrive. The training plays a key role in preparing our team for the year ahead and strengthening our shared commitment to student wellbeing.

Knowing what to do in an emergency is something we all need to be prepared for.

As part of Orientation Week, our teachers and administrative staff took part in our annual fire and earthquake drills, reviewing our emergency procedures and refreshing the skills that help keep our community safe.

We were delighted to welcome our local fire station to campus who helped our new team members to practise using fire extinguishers and participate in an earthquake simulation on the fire station’s simulation truck — a memorable way to build confidence and prepare for life in Japan.

A big thank you to our local firefighters for sharing their expertise and helping our staff feel confident and prepared should the need arise.

Each new school year offers the chance to reconnect, meet new faces and have some fun together!

This year, teachers and administrative staff from across the school took part in a series of fun icebreakers, sharing stories, reflecting on the past year and getting to know new colleagues.

There was plenty of conversation about what we have achieved together and shared hopes for the year ahead, from our academic goals to staff wellbeing and creating a positive place to work.

It was a great way to start the year, with plenty of energy and new ideas for the year ahead!

A warm welcome to the newest members of our school community!

Our New Staff Induction Day was the perfect opportunity to welcome 12 new teachers and 4 transitioning teachers to Malvern College Tokyo. Some had recently arrived from overseas while others joined us from different parts of Japan, all bringing plenty of experience and fresh perspectives with them.

The day gave our new colleagues a chance to get to know our school, from its history and values to our vision for the future. They also explored the campus, met staff from across the school and began building the connections that make our community so special.

With a shared commitment to our pupils, we’re all set for a successful year ahead!

Preparations for the 2026–27 school year have been well underway!

Following the arrival of our new Head of Prep, Paul Kurczij, our Senior Leadership Team has been planning induction week and the key priorities for the coming year.

Alongside Mr McCallum and Mr Maguire, the team has also been looking at how we can continue to support our pupils, staff and wider school community.

With preparations well underway, we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back to campus soon!
