My cousin and his family in Lahaina are a large, wonderful clan of native Hawaiians. They are retired educators, community organizers, fire fighters and regular people who have defended their shared family land against developers in Lahaina for decades.
Their great grandfather built the main house and the family has added other houses to the property so they could all live and grow together. I’ve always admired and envied their bond and faith in their common purpose.
The fire spared one old mango tree and the lanai (porch) of the main house. Everything else is gone for now.
I am helping them fundraiser towards their goal of rebuilding what they’ve lost and helping the family members on the island manage the cost of displacement and recovery.
Even if you do not have the ability to donate, please share their story! Thank you!
