The balance between sibling conflict and supportiveness predicts children's self-control, social competence as well as other psycho-social outcomes. But how does maltreatment impact on sibling relationship remains unclear, and there are very little literature on the interplay of maltreatment and child temperament effect on sibling relationship.

24th October, CHER project coordinator Yuning Zhang gave a speech at Boston Children's hospital (Harvard University) of CHER project. Professor Charles Nelson, who is the leading researcher in early deprivation's influence on brain development, showed his great interest.

An image from UN Innocenti report card 7 in which summarised rich countries' children reporting personal well-being. Nearly 30% japanese 15 year olds reported "I feel lonely", nearly 20% of them reported "I feel awkward and out of place", which made japan topped the developed country's list. Makes me wonder, can we still say, nowadays, that our children living in institutions are doing much worse than children living with their original families?
国連の発展国児童ウェルビイングレポートの１ページ。日本は他先進国より圧倒的に点数が高く、約30％の15歳の若者が”孤独だ”と回答し、約20％が周りとつきあいにくく、集団での居心地が悪い”と回答した。核家族化や家族での子育てが困難になりつつある今の日本では、簡単に施設で育った子は課程で育った子より遥かに発達が遅れているとまだ言えるのか？？

What did you do in your Obon holiday in this hot summer? CHER member Yuning Zhang and Emiko Tanaka met in West England and had a fabulous trip of visiting different children centers in Cotswold. It was a trip fulfilled with talks about techniques, vision, challenges as well as silly laughs.
