Today, we will look into the Security Council topic. Last week, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared that the nation would no longer uphold its commitment to freeze nuclear and missile testing. This is supposedly a response to the U.S. not meeting to discuss the sanctions placed on North Korea. What do you think about this situation? Should the U.S. meet with North Korea to discuss sanctions? What could be the impact on the region if North Korea resumes testing nuclear weapons?

In preparation for the ECOSOC committee, you may want to look into the 2020 Olympics and other global sporting events. Last week, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that they are banning athletes from expressing their political and social views at the games. Competitors will not be allowed to show any "signs, armbands and hand gestures." This is in response to multiple athletes demonstrating their beliefs through hand gestures and taking a knee during the medal ceremony. What do you think about this announcement from the IOC? Is it fair to limit an athlete's expression? Does this rule align with the goals of the Olympics? How does this rule impact the development of peace through international sporting events?

This week, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced that the nation has a new "strategic weapon" that it will add to its arsenal of nuclear weapons. In addition, Kim expressed that North Korea may resume testing nuclear weapons in the future. This issue is a large part of what our committee, DPRK and Denuclearization, will address. With the 2020 Summer Olympics coming up in Tokyo, Japan our ECOSOC committee is particularly topical. This week we will be exploring the topic of Sports Development and Peace in preparation for PRIMUN. Earlier this month, the World Anti-Doping Agency banned Russia from competing in the 2020 Olympics because of their athletes' continued use of performance-enhancing drugs, known as "doping." In preparation for PRIMUN, we will be sharing information about our three upcoming committees. This week we are highlighting our General Assembly: Migration and the Climate Crisis.

Climate change has disastrous effects on populations all around the world. Just last month young protestors took to the streets in cities across the globe to call their governments to action.

Our General Assembly will cover the concerns of these protestors, especially in relation to migrants who are forced to leave their homes due to natural disasters.
