Kanazawa, once the castle town of the powerful Kaga Domain, is a city where samurai culture still quietly lives on.
Here, you can experience the traditional Japanese martial art of Iaido in an atmosphere unique to this historic town.
Iaido is a discipline centered on the fluid movements of drawing, cutting, and returning the sword to its sheath.
Rather than a martial technique focused on combat, it has long been practiced as a way to cultivate mindfulness, breathing, and inner focus.
Its calm and refined movements are often described as “moving meditation.”
During the experience, the instructor also offers an introduction to authentic Japanese swords.
The session takes place at Yōkōkan, the only remaining traditional kendo dojo in Kanazawa today.
Surrounded by quietness and history, it is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the depth and beauty of Japanese culture.

居合道は、刀を抜き、斬り、納める――その一連の所作を通して、呼吸と心を整える武道。
激しい戦いの技術というよりも、自分自身と向き合う“精神修養”として受け継がれてきました。
その美しく無駄のない動きから、「Moving Meditation（動く瞑想）」と呼ばれることもあります。
体験では、指導者による日本刀の解説も。
舞台となるのは、現在金沢市内で唯一残る伝統的な剣道場「養浩館」。
静寂に包まれた空間で、日本文化の奥深さを五感で感じられる、特別なひとときです。

The tea ceremony instructor at IN KANAZAWA HOUSE always welcomes guests beautifully dressed in kimono.�But the kimono she wore the other day was especially meaningful.
She arrived wearing a kurotomesode — the most formal kimono worn by married women on special occasions.�Characterized by its elegant black fabric with patterns only along the hem, it also features five family crests placed on the back, chest, and sleeves. In Japan, it is traditionally worn by the mothers and grandmothers of the bride and groom at weddings.
In fact, earlier that same morning, our instructor had attended her daughter’s wedding ceremony.�She kindly came to IN KANAZAWA HOUSE still dressed in this very special attire, saying she would love to welcome guests in it.
Her kurotomesode was also particularly remarkable — a beautiful piece created using traditional shibori dyeing techniques by a renowned artist. It was truly stunning up close.
We shared the story behind her kimono with guests who happened to be joining our Temari Sushi experience that day as well.�Everyone warmly congratulated her with smiles and cameras in hand, creating such a heartwarming atmosphere.
It became a beautiful moment where Japanese tradition, hospitality, and an important family celebration all came together under one roof.

IN KANAZAWA HOUSEで茶道体験の講師を務めてくださっている先生は、いつも美しいお着物姿でお客様を迎えてくださいます。�けれど先日お越しになった際のお着物は、いつも以上に特別なものでした。
その日先生が身にまとっていたのは、「黒留袖（くろとめそで）」。�既婚女性の第一礼装とされる、最も格式高いお着物です。黒地に裾だけ華やかな柄が入り、背中・両胸・両後ろ袖の5カ所に「五つ紋」が入っているのが特徴。結婚式では、新郎新婦のお母様やご祖母様が着用される特別な装いです。
実は先生、その日の午前中に娘さんの挙式へ参列されたばかり。�「せっかくなら、この特別な装いのままお客様をお迎えしたくて」と、そのままIN KANAZAWA H

Some time ago, we had the wonderful opportunity to welcome nearly ten high school students from the United States for a special geisha performance experience as part of an international exchange and cultural education program.
�It was a rare and meaningful occasion where they could experience traditional Japanese culture firsthand through music, dance, and interactive activities.

The students learned how to play the taiko drum directly from the geisha performers. Although many of them seemed a little nervous at first, their faces gradually filled with smiles as they became immersed in the experience. Watching them enthusiastically perform the drums alongside the graceful dances of the geisha created a warm and joyful atmosphere throughout the room.

They also enjoyed taking part in traditional parlor games with the geisha, and despite differences in language and culture, laughter naturally brought everyone together. It was especially memorable to see how genuinely everyone enjoyed the experience.

For us as well, it was a meaningful and valuable opportunity to share Japan’s traditional culture and spirit of hospitality with younger generations from overseas.�We would be very happy if this experience left even a small but lasting impression of Japan’s cultural beauty in their hearts.

以前、アメリカから来日した10名近くの高校生の皆さんに、国際交流・文化教育の一環としてお座敷体験をしていただく機会がありました。
�普段なかなか触れることのできない日本の伝統文化を、実際に「見て、聞いて、体験する」特別な時間となりました。

芸妓さんから直接太鼓の打ち方を教わり、最初は少し緊張した様子だった生徒さんたちも、次第に笑顔に。芸妓さんの優雅な踊りに合わせて一生懸命に太鼓を演奏する姿はとても微笑ましく、会場全体が温かな空気に包まれていました。
�また、お座敷遊びにも挑戦していただき、言葉や文化の違いを越えて自然と笑い声が広がり、皆さんが心から楽しんでくださっている様子がとても印象的でした。

海外の若い世代の方々に、日本の伝統文化やおもてなしの心に触れていただけたことは、私たちにとっても大変嬉しく、貴重な機会となりました。
�こうした出会いや交流を通して、日本文化の魅力が少しでも皆さんの心に残っていたら嬉しいです。

忘れられない素敵なひとときを、ありがとうございました。

The other day , five second-year students from Wajima Junior High School visited IN KANAZAWA HOUSE.

They came as part of their school’s inquiry project, searching for a place in the city where they could share their experiences of the disaster as storytellers. We were grateful to have the opportunity to welcome them. This summer, they hope to speak to visitors coming to Wajima about what they went through during the earthquake, and they came to practice while also seeking conversation and feedback from adults.

The Noto Peninsula earthquake struck on January 1, 2024, when they were still in 5th grade. They spoke about the immediate aftermath, their homes, life in evacuation, how their town and daily lives have changed, and what they hope to do in the future.
Hearing these stories directly from them was deeply moving and incredibly real. We feel truly thankful that they chose to share their experiences with us.

There were over ten teams presenting in different places that day. During their free lunch time, seeing them happily discussing where to eat was such a heartwarming moment 🌷

We sincerely hope they continue to move forward freely and confidently, following the paths they envision for themselves.

先日、輪島中学校から2年生の5名生徒たちがIN　KANAZAWA HOUSEを訪れてくれました。 学校の総合探究で取り組んでいる、被災体験を語る語り部の活動ができる場所を市内で探していらっしゃることを知り、縁あって私たちの場所にもお招きすることができました。彼らは夏に輪島に来る観光客などを対象に地震での体験を伝える活動したいと考えていて、その練習も兼ね大人との交流や意見を求めていました。

2024年1月1日。能登半島地震が発生したのは、彼らがまだ小学校5年生の時。地震が起きた直後のことや、それからの家や避難生活のこと、その後の生活や町の変化についてや、これからやりたいことについて。

彼らの口から語られるエピソードはとてもリアルであり、それを私たちに語り伝えてくれたことは、本当にありがたいことでした。

その日、10ちょっとのチームがそれぞれの場所で語り部の活動を行なっていたそう。お昼は自由行動らしく、どこでお昼を食べるか相談している彼らの様子はとても微笑ましかったです🌷

これからも自分の思い描く人生を自由にのびのびと歩んでいってほしいなと、心から応援の気持ちでいっぱいです。

The other day, a group of 23 students from an American university joined our cycling tour in Hakusan🚴🌿

The meeting point was Tsurugi Station, the starting point of the experience—easily accessible with a single train ride from central Kanazawa, yet the gateway to a truly special journey.

Once on their bikes and pedaling forward, they found themselves immersed in a nature-rich landscape surrounded by mountains.
In the clear, refreshing air, soft hues of cherry blossoms, delicate wildflowers in bloom, and fresh spring greenery spread out endlessly, creating scenery that lets you feel the arrival of spring with your whole body. 🌸🌱
Guided along the route, everyone enjoyed the ride at their own pace, freely taking in the breeze😌

Now is truly the best season for cycling 🚲🌿

先日、アメリカの大学から23名の学生の皆さんが、白山のサイクリングツアーに参加してくださいました。
待ち合わせは、体験のスタート地点である鶴来駅。金沢市内から電車一本で訪れることができる、旅の入口です。

用意された自転車にまたがり、一歩踏み出せば、そこには山々に抱かれた豊かな自然の世界。澄んだ空気の中、桜のやわらかな彩りや、可憐に咲く野花、そして芽吹いたばかりの新緑が一面に広がり、春の訪れを全身で感じられる景色が続きます。ガイドの案内とともに、皆さん思い思いに風を感じながら、のびのびとした時間を楽しまれていました😌

今はまさにサイクリングのベストシーズン🚲🌿�深呼吸したくなるような清らかな空気、美しい日本の田園風景、そして山麓に広がる穏やかな景色——通常の観光では味わえない、特別で心ほどけるひとときを過ごしてみませんか？😊

The other day, we welcomed two guests on a private cycling tour around Kanazawa.

Riding comfortable electric-assist bicycles, they explored the city alongside a local cycling guide, passing along the Sai River, Kanazawa Castle, and the historic samurai district.

It was the perfect time of year, with cherry blossoms in full bloom. Everywhere they went, they were surrounded by breathtaking views of sakura. The weather was also ideal—truly a perfect day for cycling.

From here on, the season shifts to fresh greenery and refreshing breezes.
�This is a highly recommended experience where you can discover Kanazawa’s most beautiful spots at your own pace, with attentive guidance from a local expert.

先日、金沢市内をめぐるプライベートのサイクリングツアーに、二人のゲストが参加して下さいました。

犀川の川縁や金沢城、武家屋敷の街並みの中を、地元のサイクリングツアーガイドと共に、電動アシスト自転車で快適に巡ります。

ちょうどこの頃は桜が満開を迎えた頃。どこを訪れても、見渡す限りの桜の絶景。天気にも恵まれ、これ以上ないサイクリング日和でした。

これからは、爽やかな風と共に新緑を楽しめる季節。
金沢の素晴らしい見どころスポットをガイドによる丁寧な案内と共に自分たちのペースで巡ることができる、おすすめの体験です。

At In Kanazawa house we are serving a unique desert during our cooking class, simple yet delicious : With a salted Sakura flower, some Agar-agar, sugar and water you get this beautiful Sakura jelly.
Add some kinako powder and brown sugar syrup on top and the magic happend :)

昨日IN KANAZAWA HOUSEにて、【1日限定特別企画】「作家の茶道具による特別な茶会」が行われました🍵🌿

atelier & gallery creavaで開催中の陶芸作家・竹田みずほさんの個展とコラボレーションさせて頂き、当日は竹田さんのトークイベント、そして竹田さんに作品を使ってのお手前を披露して頂きました👘
そしてゲストの方々には、竹田さん作品でお茶を楽しんで頂き、最後には竹田さんのご厚意でお手製の菓子切り入れのプチギフトもプレゼント🎁。新緑の気持ちいいお庭を背景に、とても内容の濃いイベントとなりました🌿✨

20名の定員に対し、予想を上回るお申し込み、問い合わせを頂き、たくさんの方に本イベントを楽しんで頂けたことを、とても嬉しく思います。

陶芸作家の竹田みずほさん、atelier & gallery creavaさん、竹田さんのお茶の先生と社中の方々、そして今回イベントのテーマに合わせお菓子とお花をご用意頂いた吉はしさん、花のアトリエこすもすさん、そしてお集まり頂いたゲストの皆様に感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。どうもありがとうございました。

Yesterday at IN KANAZAWA HOUSE, we hosted a special one-day event: “A Tea Ceremony with Artisan Tea Utensils” 🍵🌿
In collaboration with ceramic artist Mizuho Takeda, whose solo exhibition is currently on view at atelier & gallery creava, the event featured a talk by Takeda-san and a live tea ceremony using her works. Guests enjoyed tea served in her pieces, and each received a small handmade confectionery pick holder as a gift 🎁

With a refreshing backdrop of lush green gardens, it was a truly enriching experience. We were delighted to receive more applications and inquiries than expected for our 20 available spots.

🌸🌸 Have you ever heard of Hanami ? 🌸🌸

Hanami is a very typical japanese activity revolving around the appreciation of the beauty of flowers. If the words literally means " flower viewing ", its much more than that.

In practice, its an opportunity for people to gather under the Sakura in parcs or along rivers, enjoy a picnic, relax and catch up with their loved ones.

As often there is a deeper meaning behind this simple activity : the appreciation of impermanence ( a important japanese aesthetic ). Beauty exists because it doesn't last.

That mix of joy, social gathering, peace and subtle melancholy is what makes it such a unique experience.

When the night falls, hanami turns into yozakura (夜桜), which is night-time flower viewing with illuminated trees.
