Today, August 4th, the Emerging Leaders went on an A-bombed tree tour guided by Mr. Tachibana san.

Afterward, we visited the Schmoe House to learn from Floyd Schmoe, an honorary citizen of Hiroshima, and his dedicated life to helping build houses for the Hibakusha community including Japanese and Koreans after the war.

Finally, thanks to one of the members' relative, we had the opportunity to watch a Kagura performance on the motif that two opposing sides can come to reconciliation by being willing to understand each other.

We also all went to cheer for the Hiroshima Carps and were even featured on the monitor twice! 😊

Yesterday, on August 3rd, the participants of the Emerging Leaders attended a meeting by Takahashi Yuko that brought attention to the plight of the Korean Hibakusha.

Afterward, participants spent the rest of the day exploring parts of Hiroshima including the Hiroshima Pref. Museum and the Shukkein Gardens.

Today was the second day of the Dr. David Hall Emerging Leaders Program. We started off the day with a Hibakusha talk by Okahara Tamiyuki-san.

Following the talk, we went on a peace park tour- guided by WFC's volunteer staff. Eating a quick lunch, we then held a conference to learn about the participants of the Program.
This public program was held for the Emerging Leaders and public attendees to share insights from their personal journeys, family roots, commitment to nuclear abolition, and visions for peace at Essor Hiroshima.

We were honored to welcome 19 attendees, bringing the total number of participants, speakers, and organizers to 40.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, listened to the presentations and self-introductions of the emerging leaders, and made this meaningful exchange possible!!
We are deeply grateful for this valuable opportunity to learn from one another.

Afterward, we went to the Peace Memorial Museum and finally ended the day learning from a grassroots Hiroshima vigil group protesting "the genocide in Gaza/Palestine", with some members joining the protest to bring attention to this genocide and the threat of the use of nuclear weapons in this conflict.

「デービッド・ホール博士 核廃絶の次世代リーダーズ・プログラム2026 in 広島」の2日目は、被爆者の岡原民幸さんによる被爆証言を聴くことから始まりました。

その後、**World Friendship Center（WFC）**のガイド・ボランティアスタッフの案内で、広島平和記念公園を巡り、広島の歴史や平和への思いについて、さらに理解を深めました。
昼食を簡単に済ませた後は、参加者同士がお互いを知り、市民と交流を深めるための公開カンファレンス※を行いました。

このエソール広島での公開イベント※では、次世代リーダーたちが、核廃絶と平和への想いと自らのルーツ、活動を通じたメッセージを広島の来場者と分かち合う機会となりました。
１９名の方がご参加くださり、発表者・関係者合わせて４０名の集いとなりました。みなさま、ご参加・ご支援いただき、誠にありがとうございました！！この貴重な交流の時間に心から感謝いたします。

さらに午後、広島平和記念資料館を見学し、被爆の実相や核兵器がもたらした甚大な被害について学びました。

一日の最後には、広島で、「ガザ／パレスチナで続いている占領と老若男女に対するジェノサイド」に抗議している草の根のグループからもお話を伺いました。
また、参加者の一部は街頭での抗議活動にも参加し、このジェノサイドへの関心を呼びかけるとともに、この紛争における核兵器使用の脅威についても訴えました。

Today, August 1, we welcomed the Dr. David Hall Emerging Leaders Program and began the week of the Program discussing about Hiroshima and why it is known as a "City of Peace."

Then in the afternoon, we visited the Honkawa Elementary School Museum where we learned about the affects of the A-bomb on the children there- guided by Hibakusha Mr. Ishida.

We then ended the day with the moving play of the retelling of the A-bomb and its effects, "Grandchildren of Hiroshima."

8月1日、私たちはDr. David Hall Emerging Leaders Program for Nuclear Abolitionの参加者をアメリカから迎え、広島での2026WFC受入プログラムの初日を迎えました。

午前中は、「なぜ広島が『平和都市』として知られているのか」をテーマに、広島の歴史や草の根の平和への歩みについて学びました。

午後には本川小学校平和資料館を訪問し、被爆者の石田さんのご案内のもと、原爆が子どもたちに与えた影響について学びました。

そして一日の締めくくりには、原爆の惨禍とその影響を語り継ぐ朗読劇**『ヒロシマの孫たち』**を鑑賞し、心を深く揺さぶられる時間となりました。

次世代と歩む核廃絶と平和

ワールド・フレンドシップ・センター（WFC)では、
8月2日、アメリカから広島を訪れる「2026 Dr. David Hall Emerging Leaders Program」の参加者１０名と対面し、お話を聞き、共に考える公開イベントを開催します。

核兵器廃絶に取り組む次世代リーダーたちの思いや活動に触れ、直接交流できる貴重なこの機会に、ぜひご参加ください。

今回は、オマール・アルダーレー（Omar Aldaleh)さんを紹介します。
８月２日自身のパレスチナのルーツと自身のアイデンテイティ、パレスチナの文化と生き方、核廃絶と平和の関わりについて発表し、語ってくれます。

彼は、アメリカ・ワシントン州キング郡で生まれ育ちました。パレスチナ難民を両親に持ち、自分自身もそのルーツを大切にしています。
大学では、生化学・生物物理学・分子生物学を学び、在学中にはワシントン州東部のハンフォード核施設浄化事業について学び、現地を訪問しました。その後、公衆衛生学の修士課程へ進学し、現在は公衆衛生の分野で活躍しています。

Announcing our 2026 Dave Hall Emerging Leaders in Nuclear Weapons Abolition!

Omar Aldahleh was born and raised in King County, WA. He is the son of two Palestinian refugees. He graduated from Whitman College in 2020 with a degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology. During his time in college he had the opportunity to learn about and visit the Hanford Nuclear Clean Up Site in eastern WA. After undergrad Omar went on to pursue a Masters of Public Health and currently works in the field of public health.

Kimanh Tran

Kim comes from a Vietnamese Catholic family shaped by the legacy of war, displacement, and resilience. Growing up with this history has deeply influenced her understanding of suffering, peace, and the urgency of preventing violence on a global scale. Her interest in nuclear weapons disarmament is rooted in both her faith and personal story. She is drawn to a vision of the world where human dignity is protected and future generations are free from the threat of mass destruction. Over the past year, Kim has become more involved in peace and justice initiatives, seeking to bridge personal transformation with collective action after joining the 2025 Fierce Nonviolence Peace Pilgrimage. She is especially passionate about building community, fostering meaningful dialogue, and exploring how storytelling and relational connection can contribute to a more peaceful and just world.
