TEFL certifications are like the wild west. At MY English School we've been doing a lot of discussion and research on them, trying to decide which we will accept for our certification bonus pay. MY English School is looking for a great teacher to join our team (replacement hiring). A teacher who has been with us since 2015 has decided to leave Japan. She was a great teacher, leader and valued member of our team. And while we pride ourselves as a great place to work with low turnover rate, we need a new teacher to take her place.

Job Description:
MY English School is seeking an English language instructor based in Yamagata Prefecture. Training should ideally begin in September, with individual teaching to begin in October. The position involves teaching student-centered lessons to all ages and ability groups at a private language school as well as possible visits to local kindergartens and/or corporations.

Duties:
A MY instructor teaches English language to students of all ages, cooperates with other teachers and staff, actively participates in and seeks out professional development opportunities, helps at school events, and is a contributing member of a professional group of teachers with high standards for education.

MY English School currently has 7 locations in Yamagata prefecture. The position may require the instructor to move around between locations each day of the week. Transportation fees will be paid depending on the distance traveled on any given day.

Location:

Requirements:
1) English: Native level
2) Japanese: Conversational
3) Experience residing in Japan
4) BA/BS university degree
5) Valid Japanese driver’s license (a car is necessary)
6) Valid work visa (visa sponsorship available)

Preferences:
1) TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, or certified teacher qualifications
2) Experience living in rural Japan
3) Minimum two years of experience living in Japan

We offer:
A competitive monthly salary of 270,000 – 290,000 yen depending on experience and qualifications, as well as 15 flexible paid holidays. Starting teachers will participate in the National Health Insurance system, with a possibility of applying for Social Health Insurance and permanent employment upon completion of the first one-year contract. Japanese language assistance will be provided for setting up an apartment, purchasing a car, and other lifestyle-related support, if necessary.

MY English School succeeds as a company through the success of its teachers. In addition to the initial one-month training period, MY provides 10 whole-day full-staff training days throughout the year. All instructors receive group membership in JALT (Japan Association for Language Teaching), as well as the opportunity to receive grants to attend teaching conferences throughout Japan.

As well as providing opportunities for instructors to develop as teachers, MY also strives to allow teachers to build skill sets outside of teaching. MY English School teachers are proud to see their contribution to the school’s growth through the completion of projects related to curriculum development, teacher training, hiring, and leadership.

We expect:
Candidates must have a strong desire to improve themselves professionally. While instructors have considerable independence in the classroom, we have demanding expectations for quality teaching and teaching methods. The position involves teaching student-centered lessons to all ages and ability groups at a private language school as well as ALT teaching in public schools to elementary and/or junior high school students several days a week.

MY English School is seeking an instructor for its after-school program for graduates of its English immersion kindergarten based in Yamagata Prefecture. The position involves mostly elementary-school-aged graduates of our immersion kindergarten, but also teaching kindergarten students at the kindergarten itself and possibly some lessons at the attached language school.

Duties:
This is mainly an after-school program position. You will teach and nurture the students in your classes in an English-speaking environment. Along with leading their English lessons, you will also work cooperatively with other staff members to organize special events such as performances, birthday parties and inter-class activities. Additionally, you will be asked to help in teaching immersion kindergarten students. This position is most suitable for individuals who have experience with, or a genuine interest in, caring and being responsible for young children.

MY Kindergarten is the first and only immersion kindergarten in Yamagata Prefecture.

この度、酒田校のクリス先生は大学院進学のため、3月で退職されました。クリス先生が子供たちに退職することを話したとき、ショックで泣き出した生徒さんや、英語で書いたお手紙をくださった生徒さんたちがいらっしゃいました。クリス先生の存在の大きさを改めて気づかされました。クリス先生、いつも明るく笑いの絶えない楽しさの中にも、厳しさのある授業をありがとうございました。
クリス先生に5年間の勤務で一番嬉しかったことと悲しかったことを伺ったところ、一番嬉しかったことは生徒さん、一人一人がそれぞれの異なった形で成長を見せてくれたことだそうです。一番悲しい思い出は?の質問には “now” と答えてくれました。英語の授業を通して、生徒の皆さんと時間を共有できたことは本当に幸せなことで、皆さんにさようならを言わなければならないこの瞬間が”my saddest memory of working for Sakata School”と話していました。コンピューターオタクと言われるほど、コンピューターが大好きで、イギリスの大学院ではコンピューターサイエンスを学ばれるそうです。これまでとは違う第2のキャリアを目指すクリス先生、どうぞお元気で、そしていつかどこかでお会いするのを楽しみにしています。

1月19日、南山形校にて2020年度の小学生クラス説明会&体験レッスンを行いました!
たくさんの方にご参加いただきましたが、最初は皆様少し緊張した面持ち…。
そのためなかなか"Hello‼"が言えないお子様もいらっしゃいました。

が‼
いざ教室に入って体験レッスンが始まると少しずつ緊張もほぐれ段々と笑顔が(*'▽')

楽しいアクティビティを通して自信がついた頃には堂々と発言することが出来るようになり、
一通りレッスンが終わって感想をお聞きしたところ、"楽しかった‼"との声をたくさんいただくことが出来ました。
