How are you all doing these hot days?
Even though Obon is over, my son and grandson are still taking advantage of the nine-day summer holiday to return home from Tokyo.
They spent Obon at my parents' house, touring Nagasaki, Oita, and Kumamoto in a rental car from morning until evening every day.
Since my grandson had never tried French cuisine, we went to "Le mistral" in Takasago, a restaurant my grandfather frequents.
I left the reservation to the chef.
Run by an elderly couple, this reservation-only restaurant is located in a residential area off the main road.
A small French flag stands at the entrance, marking the spot.
The full course meal includes hors d'oeuvres, soup, a fish dish, a meat dish, dessert, and coffee. Made with fresh seasonal ingredients, the menu features generous portions of premium ingredients such as foie gras, lobster, and abalone, depending on the price. Today's dinner consisted of a seasonal chef's special cold peach soup (exquisite), followed by salads featuring tuna and abalone, tenderly stewed fish and meat dishes, dessert, and coffee. The two-hour dinner included a drink of your choice, making it a fun family dinner this summer. All the dishes were delicious and reasonably priced, so I highly recommend giving it a try. Spring is at dawn.
The "sasanqua" flowers and "camellia" bloom
near my home.
The Kawazu cherry blossoms in between are in
full bloom.
Both "sasanqua" and "camellia" are winter flowers
(November to March).
They are familiar flowers to the Japanese, often sung
about in songs of nostalgia and heartbreak. "Sasanqua"
is a hardy evergreen tree,
popular as a garden plant, while "camellia" is
a native species that has long existed in Japan,
even mentioned in ancient texts such as
"Nihon Shoki(Chronicles of japan)" and
"Manyoshu(Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves)."
The glossy leaves of camellia give rise to its name
"tsuyabaki," and although both sasanqua and
camellia leaves have a sheen, the difference
becomes clear when looking at the undersides.
Their blooming seasons are nearly the same,
both being winter flowers.
The children’s song "Takibi(Campfire)" was inspired by
the winter scenery of the author's hometown,
Nakano in Tokyo and is a song about sasanqua.
Generally, the petals of "sasanqua" spread out flat with
serrated leaves
that have hair on the underside, whereas "camellia"
blooms in a three-dimensional shape.
Camellia leaves are smooth without hair on the underside.
The way the flowers drop is entirely different; the petals
of sasanqua fall one by one,
while the camellia drops whole flowers.
Amidst this, the "full bloom of cherry blossoms"
marks the true arrival of spring!
In the Tenjin area Fukuoka Central city,
the "kobushi (Magnolia kobus)" flowers bloom white,
and one can feel the breath of nature at this time..

A haiku about the seasonal persimmon...
The signs of autumn are gradually deepening.
This is the season when fruits such as pears, grapes,
and apples are delicious.
Among the fruits of autumn, the persimmon is
Japan's national fruit.
Speaking of persimmons, the haiku poem "If you eat
a persimmon, the bell will ring at Horyuji Temple"
by the haiku poet Masaoka Shiki is famous.
This is a haiku that Shiki, a haiku poet in the early
Meiji period,
wrote when he visited Horyuji Temple in
Nara Prefecture.
(At the time, Shiki was suffering from illness, and
it is said that"he did not actually visit Horyuji Temple
and wrote this haiku, but wrote it while lying in bed.")
And this haiku about persimmons was written
on October 26th.
This is also the season when various types of
persimmons ripen bright red,
so the National Fruit Tree Research Association
established it as "Persimmon Day."
Sweet persimmons are available in stores,
but up until the Kamakura period,
the word "kaki" meant astringent persimmons.
The history of persimmons in Japan is long, and
persimmon seed fossils
have been excavated from Jomon and Yayoi period ruins.
Persimmons were in circulation during the Nara period,
and were used in rituals and eaten as an important source
of sugar in the winter.
However, the only persimmons in circulation
at the time were astringent persimmons,
and people ate them as ripe or dried persimmons.
Sweet persimmons were created as a mutant variety
of astringent persimmons during the Kamakura period.
In the Edo period, they were repeatedly improved,
and now there are more than 1,000 varieties of
persimmons in Japan.
Dr. Karl Baer Thunberg, the discoverer of persimmons,
gave them the scientific name "Dios (god) pyros (food)
Kaki" in Greek.
Persimmons are rich in vitamins and minerals, and
have long been considered
an important source of nutrition in Japan.
Furthermore, the old belief that eating nutritious
persimmons will make youhealthy has even led to
the proverb "When persimmons turn red, doctors turn green."
Persimmons may have truly been "food of the gods" to
the people of the past.
Masaoka Shiki, known to be a huge fan of persimmons,
left many other haiku about persimmons.
Persimmons fall, dogs bark in the side streets of Nara.
A bitter persimmon falls, and on the stone it is stepped on.
It might be a good idea to write a haiku while eating
a persimmon in season.

Hakata Houjyoue Festival 放生会
It's almost September. We enter the season when
we want to be free from the sweltering heat,
This heat is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
Hakata's Hakozaki Shrine Release-Party will be held
on September 12~18 again this year.
Over the course of seven nights, various
Shinto events are held, and there are haunted houses
and Shooting, yo-yo fishing,
new ginger, etc. There are about 500 stalls.
The coalition is visited by 1 million people
every night.
The Hakozaki-Shrine Liberation Society is "merciful
to the life of all things, admonishes them against killing,
and reaps the fruitsof autumn.
Thanksgiving" festival, and its origin is "a good luck party
that kills a lot during the war.It is the most important ritual
that has lasted for more than a thousand years.
The three major festivals in the city of Hakata
(Hakata Okunchi in May, Hakata Yamakasa
in July, and Hakozaki in September) One.
This year, in search of new ginger, I tried the old-fashioned,
rustic-tasting white rice cakes and wormwood rice cakes
at the street stalls.
I'm looking forward to two types.
The outside is chewy and the inside is less sweet!
It is one of the pleasures of the open-air party.

4/22: Thoughts on Earth Day.
It's a day to think about the earth and the
environment and appreciate the beautiful natural
environment.
This concept was first proposed at a UNESCO conference
in 1969.
The following year, U.S. Senator Nelson gave
a speech on environmental issues on April 22nd.
Earth Day began with a call for a discussion
meeting.
Today, when efforts are required to achieve SDGs
(Sustainable Development Goals), daily life
This is a good opportunity to think about what
you can do for the environment inside.
Living an eco-friendly and sustainable life
depends on
your ideas, without relying on finances.
There is a world full of possibilities.
It's not possible to solve everything, but one thing
that can be done is to solve some of it.
This is a Japanese furoshiki.
I think the problem of plastic and vinyl bags
can be solved with ``furoshiki'' and eco bags.
Are the Sustainable Development Goals such
an expensive goal plan?
Furoshiki have been used in Japan since ancient times,
and are used for shopping, traveling, etc.
It is an excellent item that is useful in various situations.
It can also be used for corporate PR.
The number of stylish designs is increasing,
and the range of uses is expanding rapidly.
A few years ago, people started charging for
plastic bags when shopping.
Plastic is a convenient material, but it also
causes waste,
resource constraints, and ocean plastics.
We also have issues such as garbage issues.
In addition to eco-bags, we have been able to
shop easily for a long time.
Japanese Wisdom: Folds to save space and
wrap large items.
Don't you think that you can easily solve
your problem by using "furoshiki", which is
a versatile and useful tool?

March 10th (Sunday)
Sunday was blessed with good weather, marking
the arrival of spring.
Encouraged by the excitement, I headed to the nearby
mountains.
I took the bus from the bus stop near my home and
got off the bus when the mountains came into view.
Walk towards the mountain.
As I passed a residential area and went up next to
a stream, I noticed the words Katae River on the Tanno
railing.
The Katae River originates from Mt Aburayama, Fukuoka City,
flows through a scenic park,
It is a river that joins the Ipponmatsu River and flows into
the Hii River.
In the upstream area, it seems that the scenery is still intact,
with fireflies barely visible in flight.
In recent years, the installation of lighting has increased
for reasons such as crime prevention, resulting in
a decrease in habitat.
There seems to be concern.
1 hour walk towards Mt.Aburayama. From the village,
we arrive at a large pond with no human habitation.
Kahirahara Pond has a fantastic scenery with reeds
growing on the surface of the water.
You can see Mt.Abura on the other side of the pond.
There are many danger signs around. Ahead is
the scenic park.
As you enter the dense forest, the sunlight filtering
through the trees is beautiful.
I can also hear birds. As I walked through the mountains,
the scenery continued to be the same, and
my legs started to get heavy, so I headed back down
the mountain.
It's been a while since I've hiked a mountain, but it's nice to
have days like this when I don't think about anything.

Happy New Year 2024

My goal declaration for 2024
I want this year to be a year in which I can look
forward to everything (everything will go well).
I will work hard towards my goals this year
so that will be a happy year!
I will do my best this year to make my little
dream come true.
The effects of this have been evident since
last year, and we are off to a good starting line.
Since the declaration of the end of the coronavirus,
wars, terrorism, a weak yen, high prices, and
an aging society have all increased.
The normal and common sense of the world
changes with the times, such as the declining birthrate,
I feel like the world has become a difficult place
to live in.
Longing for the material culture of convenience, following
the trends of the times, and arrogant about gourmet food.
In life, as you get older, you forget about
the past, an your body has more freedom than
you think.
I'm working on what I want to do now before it
stops working.
Results will be announced at the end of
the year!
Thank you for your continued support this year.

Have a satisfying time with gourmet food from
Yame Fukuoka ! "Saketei Ginnoka of Autumn"

Enjoy seasonal cuisine made with luxurious ingredients
from Fukuoka Prefecture and hospitality with
Kitaya's specialty alcohol.
Tour the sake brewery at Kitaya's sake brewery,
enjoy the delicious sake and food at Saketei
Ginnoka,
I would like to see the history, nature, and
events of Yame City, but first I need to get
hungry.
After walking around the ancient tomb, we will
enjoy lunch at Kitaya's restaurant
``Ginnoka,'' which was recommended by
a local friend.
In an old private house with a nostalgic,
Taisho and
Showa atmosphere, you take off your shoes
and are led to a tatami room in the back.
The course menu is made with ingredients
from Yame,
and there are many items that go well with
sake.
The taste was delicious and the conversation
was lively, but the lunch time was significantly
delayed and the guide was confused about
how to adjust the time.
After all, it's best to take your time and enjoy
your trip.
There was some alcohol, and everyone was
in a good mood.
The principle of traveling is that the food
must be delicious!
To my delight, I discovered "autumn cherry
blossoms" blooming in the garden!
I feel like good things will continue today!
