Day 2 of Kindergarten Summer School was all about finding our balance! 🌈👣

This week, our young learners are exploring the theme of Balance through joyful, hands-on play. Today, they challenged themselves with an obstacle course, carefully balancing their bodies as they climbed, stepped, and moved through different challenges　🏃‍♂️ They also experimented with stacking and balancing objects ⚖️

At Shonan International School, we believe children learn best through movement, creativity, and exploration. Rather than worksheets, our Summer School program encourages children to think, create, communicate, and grow through play. Every wobble, retry, and success helps build confidence, body awareness, perseverance, and problem-solving skills.

All our kindergarten students look forward to Show and Play Day,where they bring in their favorite items or treasured pictures! Whether it’s a beloved toy or a heartwarming family photo, the joy they share is truly infectious. 💖

These moments not only build confidence and self esteem but also align with the International Baccalaureate learner profiles. Our students practice being good communicators as they share stories, and they show caring by listening to each other’s experiences.

🐟✨ Grade 1 Adventures at Enoshima Aquarium! ✨🐠

Our Grade 1 students recently explored Enoshima Aquarium as part of their current unit of inquiry focusing on the transdisciplinary theme of Who We Are. This unit highlights the big idea that living things go through stages of growth and development.

During their visit, students observed various marine life and learned how these creatures grow and develop in their environments. 🌊 From colorful fish to fascinating ecosystems, they engaged with interactive exhibits that deepened their understanding of growth patterns in the natural world.

We’re excited to continue raising our plants in the classroom, both from seeds and young plants, and connect these lessons to what they learned at the aquarium! 🌱

We’re excited to invite you to our Open House on Saturday, September 19th! This event marks the first enrollment period for the April 2027 school year. Discover our unique inquiry-based bilingual curriculum and explore our vibrant community during two informative sessions for Kindergarten and Grade School:

🐣 Our Baby Chicks Have Hatched!

Although our inquiry unit has moved on, our learning about living things is continuing in a very special way.

During our previous unit, Who We Are, Kindergarten students explored how different animals need specific conditions to live, grow, and thrive. Over the past month, we have continued caring for eggs in our classroom incubator—and today, our baby chicks hatched!

When students return on Monday, they will be able to observe the chicks, share their questions and wonderings, and continue thinking about how we can care responsibly for living things.

We cannot wait to share this exciting moment with them! 🐥

教室をご見学いただきながら、本校のバイリンガル・探究型カリキュラムや教育方針についてご紹介いたします。

なお、今回が夏休み前最後のOpen Houseとなります。次回の開催は9月を予定しております。

Join us for our next Open House on Saturday, July 11, from 2:30–4:00 PM.
This is an opportunity to visit our classrooms and learn more about Shonan International School's bilingual, inquiry-based curriculum and educational approach.
