On a certain day off, he tried a traditional Japanese wagashi (Japanese sweets) and matcha café experience! “It’s too beautiful to eat!” he said, carefully taking photos and videos before even starting 📱
Through the seasonal designs of wagashi, he is learning about Japan’s four seasons and its delicate culture 🌸🍁

金曜日の夜、Jamesさんはクラスメートと共に地元の居酒屋へ。そこには、教科書だけでは学べない「生きた日本語」と「日本文化」が詰まっていました。✨
Jamesさんが特に感銘を受けたのは、居酒屋特有の活気とコミュニケーション。「授業で練習した『これをお願いします』を実際に使って注文が通じた時、自分の日本語が社会と繋がった実感が持てました！」と笑顔で語ってくれました。🗣️
メニューにある難解な漢字に苦戦しながらも、日本独自の「お通し」文化や「とりあえずビール」というお決まりのフレーズを体験。異文化を肌で感じ、言葉の壁を越えて交流する——これこそが、日本で学ぶ本当の醍醐味ですね！🍻

🏮【James’s Japan Journal: The Izakaya – The Ultimate "Second Classroom"】🏮
On Friday night, James headed out to a local Izakaya (Japanese pub) with his classmates. Beyond the sliding doors, he found a world of "living Japanese" and deep cultural nuances that simply can't be found in a textbook. ✨
James was particularly struck by the unique energy and the way people communicate in this social hub. "When I used the phrase 'Kore o onegaishimasu' (This one, please) that we practiced in class and actually successfully ordered my food, I felt a real sense of connection between my Japanese studies and the real world," he shared with a bright smile. 🗣️
Though he spent some time wrestling with the complex Kanji on the handwritten menu, he got to experience quintessential Japanese customs firsthand—from the "Otoshi" (mandatory appetizer/table charge) to the classic starting phrase, "Toriaezu beer!" (Let's start with beer!).
To feel the culture with all your senses and bridge the language gap through shared moments—this is the true essence of studying abroad in Japan! 🍻

🤝 最近は『原神』をプレイしながら、寮の多国籍な友達とゲーム用語を日本語で教え合っているそうです（笑）。「文化が違っても、一緒に遊べば一瞬で友達になれるね！」と話していました
🌏 ゲームの中では自然とコミュニケーションが生まれ、リアルの会話でも日本語を使う機会が増えているようです

🎮 James is a big gaming fan! Even with language barriers, it’s easy to become friends when you share the same hobby.
🤝 Recently, he has been playing Genshin Impact and exchanging Japanese game terms with his multinational friends in the dormitory (lol). He says, “Even if our cultures are different, we can become friends instantly just by playing together!”
🌏 In the game, communication happens naturally, and he also gets more chances to use Japanese in real conversations.
✨ While having fun, he is steadily improving his language skills and expanding his international circle of friends.

📸 Curious and full of enthusiasm, James grabs his camera every weekend and heads out to explore the city!
✨ He is always amazed by the scenery in Japan, where modern skyscrapers blend seamlessly with historical architecture. During his time studying abroad, he is also honing his photography and social media skills to make use of these experiences in his future career in PR and media.
💡 “Being exposed to landscapes and designs completely different from those in English-speaking countries keeps inspiring me with new ideas!” he says. Japan is truly a place that stimulates creativity.

学生スタッフの皆さんは、事前に学校職員と何度も打ち合わせや練習を重ね、当日は会場案内やサポートを通して、新入生一人ひとりを丁寧に迎えてくれました😊
スピーチ担当の学生たちも本番まで練習を重ね、前日リハーサルから会場入りし、万全の準備で当日を迎えてくれました🎤✨

こうした学生の主体的な協力があったからこそ、今年の入学式も温かく、思い出に残る一日となりました！🌸

📱 One of James’s favorite ways to spend his days off is heading out into the city for a "ramen crawl." It’s become his routine to snap photos and film videos to share his discoveries on social media.
✨ “It’s not just about eating,” James says, bringing the unique perspective of a Media Studies major to his foodie adventures. “I love soaking in the atmosphere of each shop and discovering how flavors vary from region to region. It’s a fascinating way to experience the culture.”
🤤 There are plenty of affordable and delicious ramen spots right around TLS too!

🔰 Although James taught himself some Japanese through anime and manga, he was initially nervous about speaking it in real life. "Will I be able to keep up with the class?" he worried. However, he soon found that our teachers are incredibly friendly and the support system is top-notch!
👩‍🏫 Since our lessons focus on practical communication that can be used immediately in daily life, James is gaining more confidence every single day!
