💜 Chrono Cross 💜
While not as widely recommended as Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross offers a unique and valuable experience for Japanese learners seeking a beautiful and immersive challenge:
Dreamlike Setting & Dialogue: Explore a world where dreams and reality blur. The poetic and descriptive language adds depth, but might require a stronger foundation in Japanese.
Branching Storylines & Multiple Characters: Choices influence the story path and character interactions, exposing you to a wider range of vocabulary and sentence structures.
Beautiful Soundtrack & Visuals: The stunning visuals and captivating soundtrack create a mesmerizing atmosphere, making the learning process more enjoyable.
Focus on Emotions & Relationships: The nuanced dialogue delves into themes of friendship, loss, and self-discovery, encouraging understanding of emotional expression in Japanese.
Learning Strategies:
Play with a dictionary: Be prepared to look up unfamiliar vocabulary due to the game's more complex themes and dialogue.
Enjoy the Journey: The game rewards perseverance! While challenging, the beautiful story and rich language make Chrono Cross a rewarding experience for dedicated learners.
(optional) start with a different game: If you're a beginner, consider starting with Chrono Trigger first to build a stronger foundation before tackling Chrono Cross (as it is a bit more complex than Chrono Trigger).
So, if you're ready for a more advanced language learning adventure in a captivating world, Chrono Cross awaits!

🥢 Shokugo 🥢
Like the word “shokuzen”, which means “before a meal” or “pre-meal”, the Japanese word 食後 (shokugo) translates to "after a meal" or "post-meal."
It is used to describe activities or things that take place AFTER having food.
Example Sentence:
この薬は食後に2錠を飲んでください
(kono kusuri wa shokuzgo ni ni jyou wo nonde kudasai)
Translation: "Please take two pills of this medicine after your meal"
This is another word you will hear often when going out to eat at a restaurant!

🥢 “you didn’t hear that” 🥢
The Japanese grammar “聞かなかったことにして" (kikanakatta koto ni sh*te) translates to "pretend you didn’t hear that” in English. It's used when:
someone intentionally ignores or feigns ignorance about something they heard
when you want someone to feign ignorance about something they heard (as a command)
This expression implies not acknowledging or responding to something that was said, often to avoid getting involved in a situation or conversation.
For example, if someone overhears something a bit private but decides not to address it or get involved, they might use this phrase to indicate that they are pretending not to have heard it:
昨日の噂話だけど、聞かなかったことにするよ!
kinou no uwasabanashi dakedo, kikanakatta koto ni suru yo
“About the gossip yesterday, I’ll pretend I didn’t hear it”
You can also use it as a command:
友達の誕生日プレゼントの話は秘密だから聞かなかったことにしてね
tomodachi no tanjyoubi purezento no hanashi wa himitsu dakara kikanakatta koto ni sh*te ne
“What we said about their birthday gift is a secret, so please pretend you didn’t hear anything.”
It's important to note that this expression is used in informal situations and may come across as dismissive or evasive if used inappropriately, so just limit it to your friends and family while you get the hang of it!

🥢 Haganeeru 🥢
Onix evolves into Steelix, but you also don't say "suchiirikkusu" in Japanese.
But instead, the Japanese say↓
ハガネール (haganeeru).
Breaking it down:
ハガネ (hagane): This derives from the word 鋼(はがね, hagane), which is the noun for "steel".
ネール (neeru): This is the katakana word for "nail".
So, ハガネール (haganeeru) can be interpreted as "steel nail", which reflects how metallic and spikey Steelix looks!
Is it all coming together now?!
