You have what it takes to be a great leader.

Today, anyone can enhance their knowledge and skills using AI. But what truly sets leaders apart? It’s kokorozashi—the power to turn your personal vision into reality.

To commemorate GLOBIS’ 34th anniversary, we’re revisiting our founder Yosh*to Hori’s journey of building an ecosystem of people, capital, and knowledge from the ground up.

Having an AI strategy is one thing—implementing it is a completely different story.

In our upcoming hybrid seminar, Christine Szczepanski (Managing Director at Hachi Connect) and Aya Shimada(Founder of CULTURELABS) will discuss what it takes to successfully integrate AI into daily workflows. They'll cover which roles AI can take over—and which ones should stay strictly human.

What happens before a meeting can be just as important as the meeting itself.

In Japan, that process is known as nemawashi, often translated as "laying the groundwork". By understanding different perspectives, building trust, and aligning stakeholders before formal discussions begin, teams can have more productive conversations and make better decisions.

This concept is closely connected to what students explore in GLOBIS University's Facilitation & Negotiation course. Through role plays and interactive discussions, they discover that effective facilitation isn't about getting everyone to agree; it's about uncovering interests, understanding concerns, and creating the conditions for meaningful dialogue.

This clip is from Office Sensei, a GLOBIS Unlimited series exploring Japanese workplace culture.

Can AI replace human in creativity?

As generative AI becomes more advanced, many professionals wonder whether creative work will eventually be replaced by AI.

The reality is not that straightforward.

Creativity is never just about producing an output or executing an initial prompt. It is a process shaped by curiosity, experimentation, empathy, judgment, and continuous iteration.

Writers discover new directions as they write. Designers refine their ideas through prototyping and user feedback.

Even in business, entrepreneurs test assumptions, learn from customers, and adapt their solutions along the way. In each case, meaningful ideas emerge through human engagement with the creative process.

This is why AI should not be viewed simply as a replacement for creative work. Because creativity is an iterative, human-centered process, AI is most valuable when it supports that process. It can help us clarify vague ideas, generate new possibilities, reduce repetitive work, and accelerate exploration. But deciding which ideas matter, whose needs to prioritize, and what creates meaningful value still depends on human insight.

At GLOBIS, this philosophy is reflected in our Technovate curriculum. Through courses such as Design Thinking and User Experience, students learn to solve problems through empathy, experimentation, and iteration—while leveraging technologies to enhance, rather than replace, human creativity and innovation.

What part of the creative process do you think should always remain human? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Have you ever considered living in Japan? Part-time and Online MBA student Chu shares why he decided to leave his home country, Vietnam, to pursue a career in Japan

“If I’d stayed in my old job, I honestly believe AI and machine learning would have left me behind.”

That is how Julia described the turning point before GLOBIS’s Technovate course changed her perspective.

Technology was no longer just the responsibility of specialists. It had become a leadership imperative.

AI became more than a trend to follow. It became a tool for uncovering customer needs, reimagining business models, and creating possibilities that had never existed before.

The biggest breakthrough was not simply learning what technology could do.

It was realizing what she could do with it.

That is what it means to Technovate: bringing business judgment and technological possibility together to shape what comes next.
