As part of the international exchange programme, students participate in local events held in Sugamo, Toshima-ku, Tokyo, where the school is situated. These events provide an opportunity for students to interact with the local community and immerse themselves in Japanese culture.
The "Sugamo Noryo Bon Odori" is an annual celebration held in the month of July. This event, which originated as a means of honouring one's ancestors, is believed to be a time when the spirits of one's ancestors return to the mortal realm. Traditionally, the Bon Odori was a ritualistic dance performed as an offering to the spirits and as a welcoming gesture for their return. Over time, the religious connotations of the dance have dissipated, and it has become a popular recreational activity where people wear yukata (summer kimono) and dance together in a communal spirit of celebration.
