Intellektuell – Was bedeutet das? 🇩🇪 (English and Japanese below!)

Viele glauben, dass „intellektuell“ und „intelligent“ synonym sind – doch das ist nicht richtig. Um diesen Begriff in seiner Tiefe zu verstehen, eignet sich eine existenzphilosophische Analyse. In der menschlichen Existenz lassen sich zwei fundamentale Eigenschaften unterscheiden: 1. die Vernunft, manchmal auch Ratio genannt, und 2. der Wille.

Die Vernunft ist die menschliche Fähigkeit, rational und abstrakt zu denken – also unabhängig von Gefühlen oder natürlichen Trieben. Der Wille hingegen ist schwieriger zu erklären und hat in der Philosophie erst mit Schopenhauer und Nietzsche seinen Platz gefunden. Vor allem Nietzsche war der Meinung, dass hinter jeder Rationalität der Wille steckt – völlig irrational, bloß wollend, und immer nach mehr verlangend.

Vor diesem Hintergrund lässt sich der Begriff „intellektuell“ besser verstehen. Dem gesunden Menschenverstand nach wird die Vernunft oft als Werkzeug betrachtet – als Mittel zum Zweck. Doch der Zweck selbst ist nicht notwendigerweise rational. Der Zweck ist das, was man „will“. Nietzsche betonte: Der Wille – also das Leben selbst – braucht keine rationale Rechtfertigung. Der Wille ist fundamentaler als die Vernunft; letztere arbeitet sozusagen nur für den Willen, damit dieser erreichen kann, was er will.

Dies lehnt der Intellektuelle jedoch ab: Für ihn hat der Wille keine existenzielle Rechtfertigung. Er ist im besten Fall nur das Triebhafte im Menschen, das zu überwinden ist. Die Vernunft ist nicht nur Mittel, sondern auch Zweck. Das Leben selbst wird vollständig rational betrachtet. Der Sinn des Lebens ist nicht einfach das, was man irrational begehrt, sondern das, was man durch Rationalität erkennt und wählt.

Intelligenz ist eine Fähigkeit; Intellektualität dagegen eine Weltanschauung, die sich nicht in Intelligenz oder Bildung erschöpft. Ob man intellektuell ist, entscheidet sich daran, was man als fundamentaler ansieht: die Vernunft oder den Willen.

Shin-Kobe to Tanigami Night Hike! 🌙

Our motto was: “We walk in the Shadow!” In this spirit, four of my students and I hiked the Shin-Kobe to Tanigami route at night. Neither darkness, nor insects, nor snakes could stop us! 🐍✨

At our school, we believe in the old Roman maxim: “A healthy mind in a healthy body.” 💪

But to be honest, it was actually quite a relaxing walk through the mountains. Thank you all for joining! 🙏
