Overview of Area GO, late July 2012. The walls marked up in white constitute the outline of an extensive Early Islamic housing unit, originally dating to the middle of the 8th century CE, but probably still partially in use towards the end of the 10th century.

A look into an Early Islamic cistern shaft in Area GO. Capped by a limestone barrel vault, the cistern measures app. 3x3 metres in extent and is 4.60 metres deep, cutting into the limestone bedrock in its lower part. The walls are covered with an extremely well preserved buff plaster. The inlet in the lower part of the picture suggests that the cistern connects to a large water management system yet to be discovered.
