As part of the “Permanent National Transboundary Water Negotiation Committee” project, the Water Diplomacy Center (WDC) at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) welcomed a high-level delegation from the German Embassy in Jordan and the GIZ Water Sector Governance (WSG) Project during an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of water governance, diplomacy, and transboundary water negotiations.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and is being implemented by the Water Diplomacy Center (WDC) hosted by the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST).

في إطار مشروع “اللجنة الوطنية الدائمة للتفاوض حول المياه العابرة للحدود"، استضافت جامعة العلوم والكتنولوجيا الأردنية وفدًا رفيع المستوى من السفارة الألمانية في الأردن ومشروع حوكمة قطاع المياه (WSG) التابع للوكالة الألمانية للتعاون الدولي (GIZ)، وذلك خلال زيارة رسمية هدفت إلى تعزيز التعاون في مجالات حوكمة المياه، ودبلوماسية المياه، والتفاوض حول المياه العابرة للحدود.

ويأتي هذا المشروع بتمويل من الوزارة الاتحادية الألمانية للتعاون الاقتصادي والتنمية (BMZ) وبدعم من الوكالة الألمانية للتعاون الدولي (GIZ)، فيما يتولى تنفيذ المشروع مركز دبلوماسية المياه في جامعة العلوم والتكنولوجيا الأردنية.

During the session titled “Strengthening Capacities for a Water-Resilient World,” held on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, as part of the 5th Istanbul International Water Forum in Istanbul, Türkiye, Prof. Mutawakil Obeidat, Director of the Water Diplomacy Center, emphasized the importance of strengthening the connection between scientific knowledge and political decision-making in the water sector through multidisciplinary approaches, policy-oriented training, and enhanced institutional cooperation.

The Water Diplomacy Center (WDC) at Jordan University of Science and Technology successfully hosted the next webinar in its WDC Learning Webinar Series titled “Water, Energy, Food, Health Nexus for Disease Prevention Methodological Framework” as part of its ongoing efforts to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange in water diplomacy and sustainable resource management. The webinar featured a presentation by Engineer Rashid Albatayneh, who shared his latest research on integrating health into the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus framework

During the webinar, Eng. Albatayneh highlighted the growing recognition of the WEF Nexus as an integrated approach to managing interconnected resources, while emphasizing that human health remains significantly underrepresented in existing nexus research. His presentation focused on developing a comprehensive WEF-Health (WEF-H) framework that places health at the center of resource management discussions rather than treating it as a secondary outcome.

زار أعضاء اللجنة الفنية الأردنية السورية المشتركة للمياه يوم الثلاثاء حوض اليرموك وسدّ الوحدة في الجانب الأردني على هامش انطلاق مشروع “تحديث الدراسة المرجعية الهيدروسياسية لنهر اليرموك” المدعوم من الحكومة السويسرية وبتنفيذ مركز دبلوماسية المياه الموطّن في جامعة العلوم والتكنولوجيا الأردنية.

وجاءت الزيارة الميدانية بمشاركة أمين عام سلطة وادي الأردن المهندس هشام الحيصة، ومعاون وزير الطاقة السوري المهندس أسامة أبو زيد، ومدير مركز دبلوماسية المياه الدكتور متوكل عبيدات، إلى جانب عدد من المعنيين والخبراء من الجانبين الأردني والسوري.

وشملت الجولة زيارة سدّ الوحدة للاطلاع على أوضاع التخزين المائي وأهمية السد في إدارة الموارد المائية المشتركة، إضافة إلى زيارة منطقة أم قيس للتعرف على الأهمية الجغرافية والاستراتيجية لحوض اليرموك، وكذلك زيارة النفق المائي في مدينة ام قيس.

وهدفت الزيارة إلى الوقوف على الواقع المائي في حوض اليرموك، ومناقشة أبرز التحديات التي تواجه الموارد المائية المشتركة، وبحث الحلول والآليات الفنية والتعاونية اللازمة لتعزيز الإدارة المستدامة للمياه بما يخدم مصالح البلدين الشقيقين.
