The NOSMUN team is proud to present our theme for this year’s NOSMUN’24:
“Modern Renaissance”
The Modern Renaissance coincides with the origins of the French word “rebirth”
The Renaissance shows us the force of seeking the past for bits of knowledge and motivation in managing present issues. We’ve built technologies and weapons through the accumulated knowledge of those before us. Knowledge is clearly the center of most things; it's what people are chasing after.
Yet despite the knowledge we’ve gained and the tools we possess, we still live in a world that is easily manipulated by the media. Genocide can be covered as “self-defense.” Human rights are only demanded based on ethnicity. Moreover, ironically enough, the technological revolution taking place has been used to fabricate lies and convince the world that the oppressor is the oppressed.
It is true, we are experiencing a “rebirth.” a modern renaissance initiated through innovation. Yet this rebirth left humanity unaltered. The international community continues turning a blind eye to the atrocities taking place, and fails to see the pattern presented.
Modern renaissance reminds us that setting goals to advance technologically, politically, or economically is not enough. We must also learn from our history to prevent its repetition.
