Qatayef (قطايف) is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert that is especially popular during Ramadan, particularly in Bilad al-Sham (the Levant).

It looks like a small pancake that is cooked on one side only, which makes it soft and easy to fold. After cooking, it is filled with sweet cheese, walnuts mixed with sugar, or cream (ashta). Then it is usually fried until golden and crispy, and finally covered with sweet sugar syrup.

Qatayef is strongly connected to Ramadan. People usually eat it after sunset at iftar, and it is considered one of the most famous and beloved desserts of the month. Families often prepare it together, and it adds a special traditional atmosphere to Ramadan evenings.
