On this day seven years ago we launched The Outpost. Back then, it was very much an experiment. We wanted to produce an alternative narrative from and on the Arab world, and we wanted to see what could happen as a result. Little did we know that it would go so far. But it did; we did.

We stopped publishing the printed edition in 2016, and spent the next three years experimenting with other media forms. We built a radio, hosted live events, organized workshops, gave talks, opened a café, and helped launch a Dance Mag. Next week, we are releasing a special, seven-year anniversary print in Amman, in collaboration with Amman Design Week 2019 and المنصّة platform.

It took us seven years of experimentation to finally find our voice. In a way, this anniversary is one of our many rebirths. But this one is a special one, because it's an opening of a whole new chapter in our journey.

We will keep on writing till we reach the zenith of our freedom. This time, however, contrary to when we started in 2012, we have a voice. And we have each other.

Following "Information Design In Action" workshop facilitated by Chiara Alduini in July, the participants submitted their designs on plastic pollution as a part of a design contest organized by the المنصّة platform, Dante Amman and EUNIC Jordan.

The results were announced on the 31st of July, and the prize-giving ceremony took place at Dante Amman on the 4th of August.

The first-place winner Zayd Abidi received a three-day stay at the Torino Graphic Days Festival. The prize includes the flight ticket, accommodation for three nights, one workshop entrance.

Hadeel Sayed Ahmad: Founder of DU won the second-place, and RanaJeries Mousa won the third-place. Both received the "Infographics Pioneer" book by Fritz Kahn.

As part of their Dwelling on Possibilities Residency, The Outpost alongside Soundtelling will be hosting a podcasting and radio workshop in collaboration with platform. Click below to apply!
