At just eleven years old, Odai arrived in Jordan after leaving a homeland he and his family never chose to abandon. They came searching for what every human being searches for: a better life, safety, and a future worth waiting for.
At Amala in Amman, he found community and a learning environment that transformed his way of thinking and nurtured his love of learning.
Now eighteen, Odai has just been resettled to Italy, ready to start a new chapter. And Amala educator Rahaf has written a beautiful reflection to say goodbye to her student.

"As I take this step to Italy, I carry everything Amala built in me. The resilience, the passion, and the belief that I belong wherever I choose to go. This organization is proof that when the right people come together with the right mission, they don’t just change circumstances, they change lives. And they changed mine.” -Odai

What happens when education is designed around women and girls’ realities?
Across East Africa, many refugee women face barriers like childcare, safety, and financial pressures, often excluding them from education, employment and sustainable livelihoods.
We’ve adapted our programmes to ensure that women can fully participate and stay engaged in education, building more hopeful futures for themselves and their communities.
A series of new short films show what this looks like in practice, and the impact it’s already having.

From students to changemakers to founders ✨
Sudi, Seth, and Joseph started the Amala Global Secondary Diploma as students. Now they're running their own organisations and bringing Amala Changemaker Courses to hundreds of young people in Kakuma Camp.
And we're growing. New partners in Nigeria, South Sudan, and across Kenya mean more young displaced people can access transformative learning. Delivered by communities, for communities.

After fleeing Iraq as a child and moving to Lebanon, Sweden and Jordan, by nineteen Amala alumnus Aram had experienced several different education systems and long interruptions to his schooling.
When he arrived in Amman, he joined the Amala Global Secondary Diploma and discovered something unexpected: a passion for photography. After attending a workshop led by a fellow alumnus, Aram bought a second-hand camera and began developing his skills.
“One year can change a lot for a person, and that’s what happened to me in the year and a half at Amala”.
Aram dreams of becoming a pilot one day. For now, he’s continuing to learn, photograph, and look ahead.
