* الاحد ١٠-١٢-٢٠٢٣ الى الخميس ١٤-١٢-٢٠٢٣ (بواقع ٣ ساعات اسبوعيا أيام ح، ث،خ): دورة كتابة الرسائل الالكترونية الرسمية باللغة الانجليزية/ الساعة ١٢-١٣

يرجى من الطلبة الراغبين بالتسجيل الحضور شخصيا في اول يوم من الدورة واللقاء مع المدرّسة ندين عريقات (الموقع العلاجي/ كلية الاداب و العلوم).

The Language Center would like to welcome Fulbright ETA Ms. Nadine Areikat who has given the first Oral Skills Workshop offered to UOP students this semester and remind the students that she will continue to teach free English communication skills workshops throughout this academic year. يعلن مركز اللغات عن اعطاء دورة في مهارات المحادثة باللغة الانجليزية لمدة اسبوعين (المستوى المتوسط ) من يوم الثلاثاء ٣١-١٠-٢٠٢٣ و حتى يوم الخميس ١٦-١١-٢٠٢٣ بواقع ٣ ساعات اسبوعيا (الساعة ١٢-١٣ ايام ح ث خ ). و ستقوم المُدرسة Nadine Areikat الحاصلة على منحة فولبرايت للتبادل التعليمي باعطاء هذه الدورة.

What does The Language Center offer to UOP students?
1- Language courses which students can sign up for as free elective courses: Over the past few years, the center has offered a variety of courses such as Spanish for Beginners (1), Spanish for Beginners (2), Italian for Beginners (1), Italian for Beginners (2), and Turkish for Beginners (1).
2- Arabic for Non-native speakers (for UOP students): These courses are equivalent to the Arabic 099 and Arabic 101 mandatory classes on the student’s study plan.
3- Free English language workshops and culture sessions: Taught by American Fulbright instructors, the aim of these workshops and classes is to help students enhance their English communication skills (speaking, writing, listening, and reading) with the help of a native speaker. These varied workshops are offered throughout the academic year and are open to all students enrolled at UOP regardless of major.
4- Become a culture partner to the foreign students participating in The Culture Program offered by the Language Center. This opportunity gives UOP students the chance to interact with foreign students in a non-academic setting as they accompany them on several trips and outings, representing Jordanian spirit and culture. This exposure enhances students’ intercultural competence and helps develop a greater understanding of global communities.

What do you know about the programs offered by the Language Center at UOP?
2- The culture program is a two-week culture based program that is mainly comprised of a number of trips and excursions to historically and culturally significant sites in Jordan. It serves the needs and interests of a wider range of students who do not have previous knowledge of Arabic and who seek first-hand cultural exposure to the Arab and Jordanian culture without enrolling in the Arabic for Speakers of Other Languages Program (ASOL). This program can be easily tailored according to the needs of the institutions in terms of starting dates, duration, places to visit, activities, etc. This includes the possibility of adding cultural presentations on topics of interest to the students besides the scheduled cultural trips and excursions.

What do you know about the programs offered by the Language Center at UOP?
1- The Arabic for Speakers of Other Languages Program (ASOL) was launched to meet the growing interest in studying Arabic by a diverse body of international students. As it seeks to facilitate the students’ acquisition of Arabic and to deepen their understanding of the Arab culture, UOP’s program offers a module that caters for the students' wide range of academic and professional needs and that can be customized to meet the goals of the interested institutions. Since 2010, the students of several international universities participated in this program, such as Dankook University, Utah State University, and University of Humboldt.

The Language Center bid farewell to Ms. Stratton Marsh who has wrapped up her year at UOP by the end of this Spring semester. We would love to thank Ms. Marsh for her much appreciated efforts and dedication to her students throughout this academic year. We would also like to thank Fulbright Jordan for choosing University of Petra’s Language Center as a host institution and for their continuous support.

* Ms. Marsh taught a total of sixteen English language and communication skills workshops for students and administrative staff members, as well as five cultural lectures.
