Arabina has kicked off 2023 in a big way with our first monthly event of this year. We stayed overnight at Jordan Ranger Camp in Ajloun! It was a fun weekend of chatting around the fire, playing games, hiking through the forest, and zip-lining across the valley. Our director, Nabeel, even taught us how to make mansaf over the fire!

Happy Eid al-Adha from Arabina!

During this holiday, Muslims remember the story of Abraham. He planned to sacrifice his son, but God provided a ram for this purpose instead.

In remembrance of this gift, believers seek to draw near to God and to each other, and to give to those who are less fortunate than themselves. Sheep are sacrificed just like in the story. Some of the meat is kept for family celebrations, but most of it is given as a gift to needy families.

This is also the time of year when the “Hajj” occurs - the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest place in Islam. This makes this week of celebrations some of the most important in the Muslim calendar.

So we at Arabina want to wish you all a happy holiday. May you seek God, enjoy time with family and friends, and remember the poor, who are close to God’s heart.

Did you know?

Once a month, Arabina has a social outing for staff, teachers, students, and their families. It’s is a time to get better acquainted with the Arabina community, practice speaking Arabic, and to have FUN. 🎉
During June’s social outing, we took in the gorgeous views from Bab Al Hawwa, cooked an Arab dish called sajjiyeh over fire, and shared in great conversation and a ridiculous amount of yummy snacks.

It’s hard to believe it’s been over a month since Arabina’s new center opened for classes! Thanks again to all who came for the Grand Opening. Enjoy these pictures from such a fun day ✨

This group came to Jordan for a week to do some volunteer work. One of their first days in Jordan they took a one hour “survival Arabic” class with Arabina from the comfort of their hotel meeting room. They learned simple basic greetings and phrases. It was fun to hear them use the words they learned in class throughout their week visiting homes. A little effort can go a long way!
