Dear Matthias Leibbrand,
It´s time to say goodbye.
Thanks you very much for the amazing project for Syrian refugee children in Kerak and that I had the chance to be part of it. I really had a great time as a volunteer and to be honest, I have probably never been so happy in my life than here in Jordan. So as to say thank you for everything, the children and I painted a picture for you, which I hopefully will have the opportunity to hand over to you in Germany one day.

According to UNHCR, more than 600.000 refugees are currently displaced in Jordan. Especially young children, who have escaped the war in Syria, carry severe emotional scars. The Hope Family Center in Kerak offers trauma care through play and art, so as to enable the children to overcome their bad experiences and to enjoy their childhood once again.

Here are some pictures from our recent visit to the Family Center in Mafrq. It opend already in April 2013 and is the first of two projects for young Syrian refugees, that VHI is carrying out in Jordan. Children receive psychological help dealing with the trauma they have experienced through free play as well as art therapy. Additional support is provided to parents and older siblings through regular workshops covering the symptoms of trauma and how to deal with them. The Family Center in Mafraq currently provides much-needed employment for 18 Syrian women.

In the framework of the afternoon youth program in the Hope Family Center for Syrian refugee children and Jordanian children in need, in the district of Kerak, the kids made nice wooden picture frames last week. This was a good chance to present some success stories and to ask the children how the Hope Family Center improved their living situation in the recent months.

Yesterday, the Family Center for Syrian refugee children and Jordanian children in need, in the district of Kerak, opened its doors for parents and purples to enjoy a beautiful day together. This was a great opportunity to bring Jordan and Syrian families together and to take part in lots of activities including dancing, singing, painting on faces, and much more. Thanks to the great team of teachers who organized this fantastic event!

What we know for sure is to give hope. It is not about war and trauma, but about a warm atmosphere where children can enjoy being together and having a warm meal. What counts is the smile in their faces.

Since 2014, Vision Hope International e.V. has been operating two Family Centres in Mafraq and Kerak (Jordan) for traumatized Syrien refugee children and Jordanien children in need. Many refugee children have not attended public school for more than 2 years and about 50% are not attending school presently. The Hope Family Centres aim to bring relief to the refugees from the trauma in the past and provide basic education in Arabic, Maths and English. Here are some recent pictures from our work in the Family Center in Kerak....

Im Krieg und auf der Flucht - negative Erfahrungen prägen viele Kinder im Nahen Osten. "Vision Hope International" hat in Jordanien einen Traumakindergarten mit medizinisch-psychologischer Betreuung für syrische Flüchtlingskinder eingerichtet. Die Patenschaft übernimmt Christoph Deumling.
