We are teaching with AI while the rulebook is still being written.
And maybe that is okay.
As pathologists, we already know what to do when we encounter something unfamiliar: start with the big picture, look closely, question what doesn’t fit, and don’t sign it out until you’re satisfied with the interpretation.
That is the lens I took to my new piece for The Pathologist, “AI in Pathology Education: Learning as We Go.”
I don’t think educators need to pretend we have AI figured out. We probably shouldn’t.
But we can show our learners what thoughtful use looks like—experimenting, checking, questioning, recognizing limitations, and remembering that the final judgment still belongs to us.
