I'm reading all three of these books now...and currently listening to Stephen King' Billy Summer via audiobook. How come it's only when I'm researching for my kids I realise I might be, even just a bit 🤣

Today is Day ✅
Three classrooms, three grades, one very proud mom.

Today I had the opportunity to read to students in Grades 2, 4, and 6 at my children’s school—and every moment reminded me why I care so deeply about literacy in Jamaica. Access to books, stories, and the joy of reading should never be taken for granted.

Here’s to raising readers, building confident voices, and planting seeds that grow into lifelong learners.

This morning’s PhD coaching session reminded me just how much I’ve learned over the years — and how teaching brings that knowledge to the surface. From helping classmates in Grade 5 to now guiding doctoral students, the joy of seeing that “ooooh” moment never gets old
If you’ve ever had that moment of realising how far you’ve come — I’d love to hear your story.

Supervising research students isn’t just about expertise; it’s about being present and offering genuine support at every stage of the research journey. Too many students fall through the cracks because their supervisors are stretched too thin, leaving them feeling lost or overwhelmed.

For me, this work is a calling. I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was about 8, and it became crystal clear during my PhD that psychological support is just as vital as academic guidance. I saw firsthand how the gaps in supervision can affect students’ progress and well-being. That’s why I focus on filling those gaps—by offering the personalized support that students need to grow and thrive.

If you’re a student who feels stuck or unsupported, or an institution looking to improve how you support your research students, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always here to help.

How Kenya can fix its worrying PhD and Master's completion crisis 25/04/2025

Since pivoting to pedagogy as my main research focus in 2020, I’ve been grappling with the very issues outlined here:

🔸 High attrition in postgraduate research
🔸 Poor supervision and mentorship
🔸 Underdeveloped research infrastructure in many universities

This article focuses on Kenya, but the patterns are all too familiar in Jamaica and other countries. I’ve seen them firsthand — and I’ve been actively developing solutions through both my academic work and my consulting practice.

We need more attention on this — and action.

How Kenya can fix its worrying PhD and Master's completion crisis One of the most glaring issues in Kenya’s graduate programmes is the lack of structured timelines.
