Good Morning, On Sunday, September 10, 2017, the Manning's school family and community lost one of our own under tragic circumstances. Jordon Scott, a young man with tremendous promise died. The Manning's School PTA reaches out to the parents and in particular Jordon's father, Christopher Scott who serves on the executive, and is always available, resourceful and dependable. We share in your grief as a parent, we can only imagine the pain that a loss like this causes a family to suffer. We extend our condolences, and want only to remind you that the kindness you have shown to us, we stand willing to reciprocate.

The School Board has recognized that over the years it has not realized the full potential of the significant support of Alumni and Friends of the Manning’s School. Further, the School Board has resolved to strengthen its focus on administrative efficiencies as well as ensuring that gains in student and teacher achievements are being made.

Arising from the above, the Board, along with a few select Past Students, conceptualized and created The Manning’s School Development Foundation (the “Foundation”), a registered charitable organization under the Charities Act of Jamaica, with the primary objective of centralizing the fundraising efforts in the name of and for the benefit of the School.

Its charitable status makes the Foundation a non-taxable entity and entitles it to a slew of other advantages, including an income tax benefit to the donors and customs duty relief on imports, as well as requiring the Foundation’s adherence to transparency requirements and fit and proper tests to be met by its Board of Directors. This charitable status makes the Foundation ideally suited to act as a vehicle for the pooling of funds from various sources and donors, and for the allocation and distribution of the monies in furtherance of the School’s projects and causes. The Foundation will consult with the School Board to develop a list of the needs of the School, organized on a priority basis, and will pay out the pooled funds in accordance with this priority index.

This approach will also improve the accountability and transparency of the fundraising process. With the Foundation as the main structure through which funds are collected and channeled, it will be easier to trace and account for all monies given to and for the benefit of the School, and to reassure donors that their gifts are being applied to impactful and worthwhile causes.

In the interests of coordination and efficiency, the Board, through the Foundation, will seek to become more involved in all existing fundraising and alumni institutions associated with the School. It must be assured that all entities that purport to be run for the benefit of the School, and that collect monies to this effect, actually make these essential funds available for the School’s use. The Foundation will seek to enter into an agreement with these bodies and persons whereby they will cooperate to inform the Foundation and School about any fundraising events they hope to conduct and give a projection of the funds they expect to receive from these activities, as well as describe how and when they intend to forward any proceeds collected to the School.

To ensure that donations are being acquired and managed in an effective and appropriate manner, the Foundation will also develop a Procurement Policy outlining the rules and practices, Board Members and other involved parties should follow in their fund-collection and related efforts.

As a result of the implementation of these changes, the Board of the Foundation will be ultimately responsible for the donated income that comes in to the School from various sources. It must thus be made clear to all involved parties what the Board and Foundation are empowered to do. This has been achieved by the creation of By-Laws for the Foundation, which enumerates and defines its functions and powers, and regulates the relationship between it and the School’s administration.

The School Board is therefore delighted about this new initiative and has shared this as a formal introduction to the Foundation, with a view to garnering the full cooperation of all stakeholders of the School.

We look forward to benefits to be gained from this enhanced partnership.

Create a home environment that encourages learning, express high realistic expectations for their children's achievement and become involved in their children's education at school and in the community.

At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of parents.

It’s that time of year again when as parents we are faced with the challenge of equipping our children with new school gears (books, uniform, etc). We must dedicate ourselves to ensuring that our children gets the best possible education available to them.

Benjamin Franklin said it best "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest."

Cheers to all the hard working and dedicated parents, keep up the good work. The future depends on it!!!!

The Manning's School Parent-Teacher Association is deeply saddened by the untimely and tragic death of Josephine Wolfe.

A life quenched in an untimely manner is always sad. The life of a young person quenched, whatever the circumstances, troubles us deeply. When that life is quenched under such tragic circumstances it makes it even more heart-rending. The life of another young lady cut short, another fruit of the future taken too soon.

To the bereaved family & school community we say “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Lord when we cannot thy purpose see, help us to remember that all is well that’s done by thee.

Sleep on Josephine until that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise to life eternal.
