Southborough Primary School got its genesis on August 14, 1989 by a letter received from the Ministry of Education, which officially appointed the late Mr. Icah Small as its Acting Principal, and putting in place a Board of Management which was mandated to manage the business of the school. Laidley

The Big Day arrived on October 1, 1989 when the school opened its doors to its first batch of students, to be welcomed by these eight pioneer members of staff:-

The official opening to students was October 2, 1989 with an enrollment of 96 boys and 90 girls, a total of 196 students. Operating on a phased basis, the school began with Grades 1-3. The other Grades 4-6 were accommodated over a period of three years. At April 30, 2002, student enrollment numbered 1,250 with a staff complement of 35 (12 of whom had special responsibilities). The incumbent Principal is Mr. Carlyle Thompson who began the tenure on March 1, 2001. Why was Southborough Primary built in Independence City and not in the community of Southborough? This question is often posed by many. The school was funded and built by The United Agency for International Development (USAID). A site was identified in the Southborough area, but this turned out to be the property of the Jamaica Telephone Company. This resulted in the abandonment of the agreement to build on that site.
