The WOW story: Portland student whose parents died breaks barriers to earn 9 CXC subjects - all Grade Ones

His mother died three months after he was born; his father died two weeks before the 2019 CXC results were released.
Rahjai Thomas, who was raised by his maternal grandmother - Lera Taylor, defied all odds to attain nine CSEC subjects, reaping the best grade possible (Grade One) in all nine.
A true fighter for a cause, Rahjai, who attended Port Antonio High School in Portland, could not be restricted although his school offers a maximum six CSEC subjects per student.
He creatively worked his way through the school's shift system to earn these results:
Mathematics - Grade One
Biology - Grade One
Chemistry - Grade One
English A - Grade One
Human and Social Biology - Grade One
Information Technology - Grade One
Principles of Accounts - Grade One
Principles of Business - Grade One
Social Studies - Grade One
The aspiring doctor, who told The Beacon he is now trying to enroll in a Kingston sixth form, hails from the Anchovy land settlement in Portland.
He, a firm believer in God, is unstoppable.
